LOL!
I know it's tough being a Tory at the moment but some of the spin being put on this forthcoming announcement is hilarious.
If Drakeford really was scared of the WRU then he would have started restrictions after the Boxing Day derbies and ended them on the 11th Feb the day before the first home game.
If he was mad on power he would have stuck to what he said last week and kept restrictions in place until February.
Today's announcement however will prove he is following the data, not an ideology.
We've past the peak sooner than expected and cases are dropping faster than expected.
You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, Finny, and this isn't intended as a personal attack, but your seemingly unwavering support of Drakeford, the WAG and Welsh Labour is bordering on fanatical. It's admirable that you're so clearly a passionate fan, but just a polite warning that in my experience putting your faith in a politician is like putting your faith in the Welsh weather. More often than not, it's going to let you down!
Anyhow, I read the below on another forum and it eloquently sums up the situation better than I ever could. Apologies that it isn't original, but it's a counter opinion to yours to play devils (no pun intended!) advocate here.
"Drakeford is spectacular in his unfailing ability to steadfastly refuse accepting blame or wrongdoing. He made a mistake. he jumped the gun, and Wales infection rate is higher than England's. He made no tough decisions at all, he did what comes naturally to a socialist - shutting down the economy to appear virtuous to his voter base. The end result is the poor people of Wales will suffer even worse than the English for no good reason but Drakeford's pride and vanity.
There’s nothing remarkable about this. It’s the modus operandi of Welsh Labour and has been for at least half a century. They get away with it because there is absolutely no scrutiny. The English media ignore Wales, and the Welsh media is entirely in the pocket of Welsh Labour. The list of scandals that have slipped by without notice is unending. The intricate system of patronage and control via third sector, public sector and unions ensures no internal dissent, and provides a ready chorus of support and approval when called for.
The only potential alternatives are deeply compromised. Plaid Cymru, by the utter inadequacy of their politicians and a misguided idea that they need to be more socialist than Labour to gain ground, The Tories by the fact that the Iron Lady’s mob absolutely devastated swathes of the country more effectively than the Luftwaffe (when even Tebbit thinks she went too far, it should give pause for thought).
Wales is screwed, but it’s been this way for almost 2000 years when the Romans showed up. You get used to it."
At the end of the day, opinions are like ar*e holes, we've all got one! My opinion is no more valuable than yours, and visa versa. I can see merits in all sides of the political spectrum, I just try not to be blinkered to the faults of politicians and their politics, regardless of creed.
Most importantly, at least we can agree on one thing, our love of ice hockey and The Devils! He may not admit it publicly, but at least Drakeford has finally seen the light and from the 28th we can get back to supporting the club we love.
