ANY UPDATE?

It's all gone quiet about the new d man.
Any news??
I'd be surprised if there was anything imminently. Lots of time would have been dedicated to the CHL games. And the market still won't settle down and shake out in North America for a couple of weeks.

Can't see there being any news until October personally. But I honestly don't think it's that much of an issue currently. Batch has more than added a different dimension to our Defence.

I think we will go with what we got till a injury appears.
There good enough for the league if players stay fit so let's hope so.

I don’t, it’s no good looking when the best have gone, and it takes time for visas etc to be processed. Also we need our next signing to be in tune with the team, and settled. Soon as the right fit becomes available, then Lordo will move, also competition for places is very healthy when you have aspirations to be successful.

We have a full import quota without him, my guess is that we wait until the end of September AT LEAST due to the filter down effect from NHL training camps into AHL, and AHL training camps into ECHL, hopefully we can secure an a guy that falls out of the AHL and can't find a contract.

The hardest part about Parisi at a guess is that his contract included a masters program, which has now gone to waste.

It's no secret that any guys offered a FREE MASTERS will be paid a little less.

However with that masters spot now wasted, there may be less money available for that final spot.

If we are still offering a college place to our final signing, then does he have to be here by a certain time to start his education.??????

The MBA is not Wasted, Enrolment has not happened yet.

if there was a player who was interested they could still sneak on. Strachs wasn't part of the original MBA last year and he took one of the spots.

The MBA spot is still live if the club wants it I believe.

Thanks Gaz, that answers that query. And gives more breathing space to get the best we can, and we surely will get the best we can, as our other signings have proved.

Oh yeah,

I'd forgotten about Strachan and the MBA he was on, he wasn't here until mid/end October and still was on a Masters.

Assuming we still use the Masters spot, we're looking at someone:

Currently a free agent (not necessarily but still...)
First line D man calibre
Has completed a university degree
interest in completing a masters
wants to play in the UK

Exactly, we didn't announce Strachan until 21st October, so I'm guessing a similar type of time this season.

I think the new D man has signed and is probably already here.
The way we have played in the televised CHL games has done us proud and I think it's a tool that we must have exploited in our search for a new d man! ...Don't forget, Lordo has obviously planned everything out with an extra guy on board, so I'd imagine he wants someone on board as soon as a suitable match is found. Though I do know that after the north American camps is the time of the season when some total diamonds become available!

Another Craig Weller-esque signing would do ;)

I would very much doubt if that's the case. There's still a few good weeks before the NA system settles down and there'll be more quality guys available after failing to get a contract. IMO, don't think we'll have someone in before October.

Why would tonight’s game show that, ???
I think he means it’ll show how we get on now that the proper league has started. I seriously think we’ll struggle tonight and they’ll edge it. They’ve got a teams full of size, speed and toughness so it will be a tough test for sure, especially as they have a new coach. We’ll need to come out all guns blazing, throwing the body at everything in yellow and white, taking shots on Garnett early and our PK and PP needs to be on point. We do need a D man soon and I’d like a 6 foot plus one who can play and fight

But we also got a team full of size, speed and toughness, so why should we struggle, I believe that if we play as we can we will take the Panthers. They are a very good team, but we are also a very good team, this will be Panthers first game against a top quality team, so their other results don’t mean zilch. I think we will take this 3-1.

We haven’t got a team full of size. We are the 6th biggest team in the league (fact) and also the oldest (fact) and we don’t have an out and out heavyweight like Panthers do. I don’t think we will be bullied, but don’t be so naive so think everything is so perfect for us and arrogant to say we are the only top team they’ve faced. Sheffield will be there or there about and Fife are a very difficult team to beat. It’s arrogant to say that.

We need another D man. And a D man that can get around a point a game because at the moment we only have Fournier who isn’t even a point a game. The other 3 D we have Reddick, Richie and Batch weren’t even a point a game if you add up all their points together last season. That’s a big failing of a top end team. Blood is very good but again, not a naturally offensive D.

And what if we get an injury to one of our Key D (Richie or Fournier)? We have very, very little offence if so.
