Just listened to John Lawless on the best podcast to date, what a player, what a coach and what a gentleman the man that brought the devils to where we are today in our 40th anniversary, great to hear him once again, well done to the podcast boys as well, made my night.

Every devils fan and all associated with the club over the years owes so much to JL.
If it wasn't for him, the backing of john jones, david temme and others over the initial years. We would not have had the friends we've gained, the great memories, the successes and being known as the 1st and driving force in UK hockey.
Ive so much respect for him, I've met him a couple of times over the years and he's so humble. Can't wait to listen to it.
Thanks again Johnny and shoot that scoreboard.

Loved what Franny said about John Lawless changing the face of UK hockey as a whole turning it into a professional sport and then giving all teams then across the league the impetus and ambition to become professional outfits. It shaped UK hockey absolutely.

Absolutely spot on, as already said to do what Johnny did at 26 yrs of age is nothing short of phenomenal, plus his television appearances were so professional and mature. Johnny was the perfect entertainer, great player, the shooting of the clock, and then returning his stick to the holster was pure pure entertainment and the crowd loved every minute of it, and that happened time after time. Our Maestro knew exactly how to get the crowd on the end of their seats, and brought in the players to not only win but to also entertain, and boy did they entertain, if the Devils played every other day the rink would be rocking. Cardiff had never seen anything like it, little did I know that Nov 30th 1986 was going to take me on a 40 yr ride, a ride that I have never wanted to get off, with the exception of the lock out fiasco. Anyway that’s old news now, anyway on a much brighter note I was fortunate enough to know Sir Lawless not only as a player but also as a friend, and if it hadn’t been for him my life would have been much much duller. So we had a great set up in 1986, and we now have a great set up in 2026, it don’t get any better than that folks. MANY HAPPY HOCKEY DAYS

wow, just got in from gardening duties and listened to the Pod.... unbelievable stories unless you were there and experienced what that ride was like. I can confirm that my £10 double returned me £1200 !!! which was a nice pay-out in 1989

Amazing payout!!

Certainly was the best ride - I love the hockey now, but those early days in the late 80's/early 90's will never be surpassed!

Absolutely brilliant podcast and interview with Lawless. Incredible to hear he still has so much passion for the club despite leaving over 30 years ago and now living so far away.

Franny made a great point that if it wasn’t for Lawless showing that you could sign the best players, pay them a professional wage AND still be profitable we wouldn’t have the hockey in the UK we do now.

People like Lawless, Moria, Hope, McEwen, Heavey, etc, etc, will never forget their time in Cardiff, and Cardiff will never forget their time in Cardiff, those times and memories are there forever. Its the same now for guys like Joey Martin and others once you get the Cardiff Bug it’s there forever.

Absolutely - hearing from these past Devils legends (and they are legends) and hearing their love for the organisation that they helped shape from the beginning is incredible. Amazing trip down memory lane! Keep them coming!

Just listened to the Shiney pod, great memories, well worth a listen. Still loves and is proud of his Devils and the legacy.
Some great stories, I remember being at that trafford, tournamant our first major trophy watching it you could
see something special of course in hindsight we did. We have to, be gratefull to all the sponsors as well that backed
the weasel and the shinedog.
I was hoping the Kelland incident was discussed ha ha
I had the pleasure of working with shannon on match nights, doing stuff with new supporters and sponsors he was
infectious, can't wait to meet up with him again. Also remember on a few occasions ringing me and saying Hey Marty
we've a new player and or backroom staff starting next week which meant, can he stay with you for a few weeks !!
sometines turning into a months, you just couldn's say no to him.
That game in southampton was nuts, "who have we signed" I thought, I have the stats somewhere, those boards at
Southampton were soild, no give in them at all a galaxy apart from the current facilities like the Storm's.

Well I thought John Lawless was epic , you wanna listen to Paul heavy in the latest podcast, some of his stories had me in tears of laughter .and he was sober, again thanks to the podcast team, what a job they do.

i got to say i really enjoyed Paul heavy podcast, he can talk for hours, i think he just loves talking about hocky , and so do we , i would love to see, or hear , heavy and Ruggles who's great to listen to as well, doing a commentary of a game. hay ? there's a idea , how about getting a bunch of past players on a u-tube stream together, i think you could get about 10 at the same time streaming. call it cardiff devills 40 years live stream , actually you could have more than 10 , and have some pop in and out. you could even charge for it .

Paul Heavey and Gerald Adam’s are 2 of the nicest human beings you could ever wish to meet, and Cardiff was also richer to have them in their organisation. Two guys who if you were in the trenches you would want watching your back, two awesome Podcasts with two awesome guys, and a very good call by the Podcast lads. I could write forever about these two Legends they loved Cardiff and Cardiff loved them. It will be a privilege to welcome these guys back to Cardiff.
