A fair few posters seem to believe, quite appropriately and with good logic, that a Devils side comprised of most of last seasons roster is capable of playing how the Devil's played for the final few weeks of the season - culminating in the Playoff win.
Of course.
But isn't it also true that those same players played for the whole season and so could also play like they did for the rest of the season, (and failed to win the league and mess up the cup) other than the last few weeks.
I think we have recruited well on the whole. We have let go a lot of the players I felt would/should be let go if we were to take that next step. And we have a couple players who may end up being that difference from last season. No new signing comes with a guarantee of so many goals etc.
No matter who was brought in, the same basic principle remains: the success (or not) of the season rests on whether the players show up every night. Hit the ground running and treat two points in Dundee the same as two points against Panthers. If any one of our roster doesn't show up until playoffs, it'll be clear. What would be very disappointing from a recruitment perspective would be if a player who disappeared for games on end last season, did the same this season and only showed up towards the end of March.
If the same players as last season do the same thing and don't show up night in night out, then we can't expect a better result come the end of the season. We lost the title last season due to losing games we shouldn't have against teams we should, with respect, have beaten with energy to spare.
That being said, come puck drop on the first game of the season - we as fans also need to show up every night - as long as they pull on the Devil's jersey, they will get full support.
