So as expected Brandt completes the roster and as I thought I would be I’m underwhelmed.

We’ve lost
- Sanford
- Perlini
- Lacroix
- Ferguson
- Caponi
- Maclean

We’ve gained
- Sacratini
- Welsh
- Carron
- Meiho

Is this an upgrade? Possibly a small one. However I’m not sure we’ll have the goals to compete for the league title and it leaves me asking - where has all the extra money gone?

strange that you are underwhelmed brought in 2 great(on paper) imports and Welsh to a team that won the play offs and done well in the league,
Add to that a year together learning Paul Thompson way of playing i for one are quite happy

The money has gone on the increased costs, mostly rink related, but also on housing and wages.

There was never any suggestion from the club it was going on a bigger player budget was there?

Awesome, he will be missed, thommo spoke very highly of caponi , so dont know why he's leaving .
Yeah, if there is one player not returning I’m going to miss most it’s Caponi. He can turn a game massively with his energy and ambition. We have other players that can score the goals, make the plays etc. Caponi was a massive energy guy and can get you off your seat. Pure entertainment! Of course Brandt can do that too, but I sense his game play will change somewhat this year so we may not see as many of those booming open ice hits, sadly. I would have loved to have had him back.

But in fairness only 2 of those players we have lost were class, Sanford and Ferguson, Caponi was entertaining and a warrior end of, Lacroix was a disappointment, Perlini was okay but that’s it, Maclean was a pretty good player but couldn’t break thru into the team much. So only two of those guys could hold there place in a championship seeking team, Sacratini is a young lad that with his dna could be a gem given time, Welsh is a pure class D Man and will fit in well with a wicked defence and will be a superb signing, Caron I expect to be a great signing that fans will really take to and I can’t wait to see him play, he will be class. Then theres Mieho who I believe will be the class act and up there with the very best, so do I think we have upgraded absolutely and definitely I do. Then of course there’s the class act that’s called Nolan Yaremko if he can stay injury free over the season, he will light up the lamp on a regular basis, he showed in the play offs against Steelers what he is really about. We have a team who can score, who can hit, who can fight, and who can close up shop with the best duo in the league, what’s not to like, would I like another sharp shooter wouldn’t we all but Devils don’t have a bottomless well of money. So my diagnosis of this team plus a great coach and a great back room class is bring it on folks, I’m looking forward to HAPPY HOCKEY DAYS myself and money well spent, see you guys soon.

whilst it wasn’t directly said it was going on the player budget it was mentioned about us being able to compete with the arena teams.

I also appreciate costs have gone up as they do every year and didn’t expect all the increase to go on the player budget. I just expected a little more wow factor.

I think we’ve improved a bit, just not enough. I also appreciate the management team know what they’re doing and hope I’m massively wrong and we walk the league!

Some are saying we not gonna score enough goals, we know other clubs have signed newbies as well as bringing core players back they could be in the same position we are in, nobody knows until the season starts, the 4 newbies we signed will gel quite quick hopefully and get a head start on the others who may have signed 8 to 12 new players that need gelling together ..just saying

Very good point. I remember this time last year there was lots of talk of so many new players to the league coming in and taking scoring to another level. And yet the top 4 league scorers were all returnees.
Belfast in particular looked like they had signed some big goalscorers, but none of the newbies really worked out. Again this year, two of their forwards look like they should put up big numbers on paper - but will they?

And whilst on the topic of Belfast, that defence looks…..well it looks like it won’t last into the new year …… if that!

Just because a player comes from a higher league doesn’t automatically mean that will translate to the EIHL. Marjamaki played lots of years in the finnish Liiga, had good stats over there then he came here from the Czech league and ended up being absolutely awful.

I’m not saying Caron and Mieho will be awful by the way, I just think we’ve got recruitment wrong this year. Other teams have upgraded massively and we’ve stayed static for the most part.

Who has upgraded massively, and we haven’t stayed static, also we had a very good team last season so we wouldn’t get rid of good players, why would we, we won 2 trophies and came second in the big one. Don’t expect to spend the money Giants, Steelers, and others spend we don’t have their attendances. Villa don’t spend the same money that Utd, City, and Liverpool.
