And just like that we arrive at the last home game of the season and invite our old frenemies from Coventry to the Bay. Coventry did a number on us the other night, despite a valiant comeback attempt by the Devils so we'll be looking to repay the favour. Devils are still second in the table and I _think_ a win will guarentee us at least third, although I've not done all the maths.

Not specifically about the Coventry game but I've been looking at how our players have been doing in different categories amongst themselves and across the league and going into the last league weekend I thought it might be of interest to some (and the voting for awards night closes Sunday 5th too if this helps!).

Certainly the standouts within the Devils camp this season are Kontos, Sanford, Martin, MacDonald and Estes (Sanford always seems to take quite a bit of stick but once again he is right up there amongst the top players in the league in many categories again this season).

Most points-per-game:

1). Sanford = 1.05 (6th best in the league)
2). Kontos = 1.02 (8th best in the league)
3). MacDonald = 0.94 (16th best in the league)
4). Martin = 0.90 (19th best in the league)
5). Estes = 0.81 (36th best in the league)

Most points per 60 minutes ice time:

1). Kontos = 3.71 (3rd best in the league)
2). Sanford = 3.25 (11th best in the league)
3). MacDonald = 3.11 (14th best in the league)
4). Martin = 2.91 (21st best in the league)
5). Perlini = 2.72 (30th best in the league)

I wanted to look at the forwards who contribute the most offensively best and to do this I’ve calculated the forwards who have been on the ice the most when Devils have scored goals, as measured by team goals per 60 minutes of actual time the player was on the ice. Cole Sanford tops this – the team has score 69 goals this season when he has been on the ice – the most by any forward, and below is this and other players' figures calculated as total goals they were on the ice for divided by their total ice time, then expressed per 60 minutes ice time.

1). Sanford = 4.87 (3rd best in the league))
2). Kontos = 4.66 (5th best in the league)
3). Martin = 4.40 (13th best in the league)
4). Fergusson = 4.36 (15th best in the league)
5). MacDonald = 4.00 (31st best in the league)

Then I subtracted the goals the team conceded during every 60 minutes each player was on the ice to see who seemed the best contributors when combining offence with defence. Goodwin and Twarynski of Belfast are the top 2, far out in front with +3.42 and +3.27 respectively, but I was surprised to see Sanford is 4th best player in th whole league for combined offense/defense effectiveness by this measure.

For the Devils:

1). Kontos = +2.76 (3rd best in the league)
2). Sanford = +2.68 (4th best in the league)
3). Mosey = +2.42 (8th best in the league)
4). Martin = +2.20 (12th best in the league)
5). Brandt = +2.10 (14th Nest in the league)

Forwards:

2). Kontos = 3 minors, resulting in 0 powerplay goals against
3). Davies = 4 minors, resulting in 0 powerplay goals against
4=). Sanford = 5 minors, resulting in 1 powerplay goal against
4=). Barrow = 5 minors, resulting in 1 powerplay goals against

Defence:

1). MacLean = 0 minors
2). Richardson = 3 minors, resulting in 0 powerplay goals against
3). Estes = 5 minors, resulting in 0 powerplay goals against

On the subject of games vs Coventry this season - 65% (11 out of 17) of Coventry's goals against us have come on the powerplay. Our PK against them is only 65.63% and from memory Coventry's tactic has been fire on net with a big screen and score with the chaos that follows on the rebounds - given we might well face them in the play-off QF I hope tonight we can show we've learnt how to nullify that PP tactic. With our games vs Blaze averaging over 30 PiMs per game this season, we might well have opportunity to see.

Our goals scored/conceded numbers for 5-on-5 play against them this season is 15-4.

Grant Mismash (#86) has the most points against us with 7, followed by Colton Saucerman (#23) (although Saucerman was hurt in the game against Belfast on Wednesday and couldn't complete it so he might well be out tonight).

Pelech (#27) seems key too as he had been on the ice for 59% of the goals Coventry have scorted against us.

Bowns is 4-1-0 vs Coventry this season with a saves % of 94.04%, and Stoever is 0-2-0 with a saves % of 87.72%
