Another gutluss performance from start to finish.
Interested to know what you thought was gutless about it?

Lost to a better team on the night, no shame in it. A few mistakes, but it’s a game built on mistakes. This loss wasn’t through a lack of effort. Devils were still physical throughout, had a number of fights.

Some of you think we should win every game and can’t cope when we don’t.

Not commenting on the “gutless” part as I agree with you, but we missed 2 open nets, better team won blah blah blah, the better team won because we sucked beyond believe at certain points, the resorted to fighting when the game was 3-1 / 4-1.
2-1 there’s no fighting.

We might’ve had bad moments, missed sitters, gifted them a goal (the one the D man walked it out and turned it over was a howler), but that’s hockey. Over 70 odd games by the time the seasons done itll happen plenty more; you just have to shrug your shoulders at games like that. As long as the effort is there I just put it down to one of those things. If a neutral watched that they’d be thrilled.

*sigh* Our team lost to a tactically better and more skilled opposition on the night. The Devils this season are never quite good enough in these situations....and inconsistency is definitely not a quality that defines winning teams.

Fighting when it's clear the team has lost the game is not 'entertainment' for fans or players, it's a sign of frustration and wasted energy.

In a season where the special teams (pp, pk) are just so crucial, Devils' weaknesses in those areas seem to be exposed almost nightly....and there appears to be no noticeable improvement week on week. Is the issue with tactics, or on-ice execution?

Instead of signing a 6.7 D man who never gets a game, we might has well have signed a 6.7 meathead who at least could provide a deterrent or some retribution to the likes of Zech when he takes our goalie out. He should have been no-choiced and/or Carr given the same treatment as Bowns. Not so much a lack of effort for me but a real lack of quality, against an average Panthers team too who have been struggling, which is more worrying. Title winning teams have a togetherness and never say die mentality which I just don’t see in this team right now.

Our last few games have been an absolute dread to watch. What a lazy, amateur performance and honestly deserve 4th / 5th place this season. I really hope we don't sack Thommo because I don't think rotating coaches is the answer but, I do think massive changes to our line-up need to be made next season and if that's something as radical as a full rebuild then so be it.
Thommo ain't going know where, Hopefully he will have full reigns of recruitment there will be a big clear out

It is for this fan. I’ll take a bloodbath at any point in the game. First minute, last, win, lose or draw.

2 instances in the 1st period, the helgesen roughing only happened because a Nottingham player started the incident and as you say the blatant to many men on the ice.

Duggan got a game misconduct only to try and calm it down after Bowns got smashed and we were behind, other wise that 39 minutes ain’t being called.

There was jack shit that was gutless about our display, we were truly lousy playing wise and we lost to the better team on the day, but we were far from gutless we answered the bell more often than Panthers. Unfortunately that’s all we answered the bell too, we need to accept we won’t win this thing and that a 3rd/4th place is where we will end up, and that’s where we should be. We have played lousy for awhile lately and have only beaten poor teams, when we meet teams with a pretty good line up we struggle and that’s the truth.

The fighting as we all know was due to frustration, we weren’t frustrated at 2-1 but once we knew we were going to be 2nd best on the night the frustration kicked in. They knew how to press our buttons and did just that, we could win the fights but couldn’t win the gam, and that’s exactly what did happen.

Well for one I'd say when your goalie is blatantly ran over you make the guy responsible answer the bell for it no matter what, soon as it happened someone should of fed him his teeth.
We should have had someone waiting at the penalty box door for him to step back on the ice. To allow him to skate down the wing and set up a goal untouched wasn’t acceptable.

Absolutely spot on, if we are playing lousy which we do fairly often lately then for gods sake give us something to shout about, just lying down and being walked over on top of playing like shit is really taking the piss. If you can’t score and are playing like shit, then for heavens sake give us something to cheer about.
