Indeed inconsistency is the nature of the sport, I'm afraid. As a fan, of course I feel the same way on so many occasions and wish they could play the same way every game. I've been living and dying with my various hockey teams for my entire 56 years and its been the same every year. "Why can't they play like that every night"!!! Knowing the coaching staff and the players and now having a son in professional hockey, you learn that there are so many things over the course of a season that make that impossible. Added to that is the fact that the game is played on a surface of ice, on steel blades, with a rubber biscuit...and with refs that may not see things the way we would like. There is no more inconsistent sport in the world. So I accept that and after I cuss and spit, I look back and appreciate that I had a blast watching the whole season. It's almost the randomness and inconsistency that gives the sport its excitement!
I couldn’t agree more, and I’m not just agreeing because you are one of the owners. Haha. I have said this for yonks - to expect ‘consistent’ energy, physicality, entertainment, consistency with refs, and dare I say wins ( home or away) every game of the season is bordering on the ridiculous. It’s impossible!

The aim must surely be, to be the most consistent we can be over a long period of time (season), not ‘unrealistically’ every single game and losing our minds after a below par game or two. It ain’t happening!!! - and it’s never going to - In any sport, ever!! no matter how good you are or think you are. That’s not a defeatist mindset, that’s a reality, and we can still be very positive and ambitious within this reality! We need to enjoy every facet of this amazing sport whilst we all can - the highs, wins, losses, bumps, challenges, championships, the strategies to win, recruitment, search for form etc etc. Personally, I have loved this season under Thomson and strangely, even when we went 4-0 down last weekend at Coventry I was not disheartened or frustrated - I was more excited to see how we would react, could we pull it back and what kind of character do we have in this team. That’s what makes this sport beautiful. For next season, I’m not worried about the possibility of Belfast winning it all again, I’m more excited to learn what strategies the Devils and other teams muster up to compete, and become the NEW champions next year. Most here have been around the Devils long enough and fully understand and respect the competitiveness of ice hockey and the EIHL nowadays - enjoy the ride and all the bumps that come with it whilst we can!!

Many people feel the same way as Martyn and many have felt the frustration he has, I have actually watched every game this season home and away and not missed one. We most certainly have two teams I call them team Dr Jekyl, and team Mr Hyde, Dr Jekyl team are a pure joy to watch, and show us they can beat anyone and show us how very good they can be, and also lift our spirits to near euphoria and certainly have us wishing for the next game that can’t come quick enough. Then unfortunately the Mr Hyde team show their face, and then the frustration and depression sets in, this team sometimes play like they don’t have a clue, they have never played together before, there’s often effort but very little creativity and sloppiness and a feeling they don’t want to be there, this then results in losing to teams they shouldn’t really lose to. Having said that most teams if not all have this inconsistency, Giants who have won the league , Panthers who have picked up two trophies, Steelers who are usually very strong have all lost to teams that on paper they should certainly beat. This league to a certain extent often throws up results that don’t always make sense, but as people have already remarked on this is SPORT, it can take you to highs and drop you to lows in the same weekend, it’s a roller coastal ride folks and some times that can be frustrating and annoying, and that’s when folks like me have a moan and rightly and naturally so, it’s called passion and caring about the club we all love, Martin like many of us passionatley want the best for this club that why 40 yrs later he is still here, and we share his ups and his downs it’s called being human with feelings and emotions. Anyway it’s was a pure joy to watch team Dr Jekyl ripping apart, and destroying that lot from up the road, sometimes the M4 can certainly be THE ROAD TO HELL and hopefully that can be the case for the next few weeks, so after last nights wonderful evening let’s have many more HAPPY HOCKEY DAYS.

Heard fined or abuse of officials, ,not enough in my opinion. Club will pay it anyway ..got off light there .
Agreed, the blind man stuff on the way to box + the holding his stick across the penalty box door to prevent the linesman putting him in the box + the mouthing off in the box....
Either DOPS fine him or a one game ban as supplementary discipline - or ideally it should have been called on the spot. Had he been properly punished then, he doesn't get involved with stuff after he is back on the ice and it all kicks off. I appreciate that fans who have been watching far longer than me would likely disagree, but does the 3 parts (as I've mentioned above) amount to a major and maybe a game misconduct? He definitely should have got a 10 min to calm down.

You compare that to Sanford getting 10 mins a few weeks ago for what he said to an official from the bench - clearly the line for what is and what is not acceptable is drawn by each official. 2 mins for Heard last night (initially) was pathetic.

The ideal call would've been 2 plus 2 and 10 min misconduct ,,i still think it should go further mocking the blind .
Did anybody else notice it looked like Ions gestured to Heard to get out after he was banging the glass with his stick as if he had been thrown out of the game. Heard didn’t move though and then the linesman appeared to have a word with Ions as if to calm him down. He then whistled to move the face off from the neutral zone to a Devils o-zone one. All very odd.

I did enjoy the 3rd period last night, some players are coming into form just before playoffs which is nice to see. 1st period was a hard watch.
I would just like to see Sanford not lose the puck so much, we work so hard to get it and it must drive the other players crazy when it lost so easy.
Heard last night, what a complete tool, that changing room is lost. However bit of respect for him trying to get something going and see some passion that other Sheffield players were lacking. On paper that team is epic but you can see they have switched off.

Heard had to be thrown out for me. I guess there’s something in the rules which says is isn’t an automatic game penalty but imagine if he’d done some damage to Oligny and he was out for the playoffs all because it wasn’t handled properly at source. Thankfully Jimmy can look after himself.

He was caught with a sucker punch but we in the past have done it so we can not really complain. Just a bit dirty but i can see Heard was trying to change the game and get the bench going.

Backfired as we scored a 5th, I think heard got an issue, and prob had same attitude at clan , thats why clan got rid of him with his antics on and off the ice, and steelers were the mugs that had him under their wings .

I thought it was a bit unwise Oligny getting involved in it.
Heard had wound himself up and sat in the box for 2mins getting himself more riled.
It was a good opportunity to make him look a bit of an arse rather than let him dump his adrenaline on you.

ISTR Steelers paid to break Heard from his contract in Glasgow ...rather than him being let go.

But I could be very wrong.

I was thinking Haddad the way he just goes around the zone keeping the puck
He’s more like Ed Courtney. He looks lazy because his stride is effortless.
Haddad was more of a power forward. Kontos is a playmaker who can thread a needle with his pass.

I’d like to see him back with a workhorse goal scorer next to him.

I loved caponi hit on balmas was s little bit of redemption with heard fighting oligny. Some of the Steelers forwards were disgrace that Ritchie got be one of the laziest players I have ever seen ,how hell he played in NHL is oblivious to me

Id like his brother to be a devil mind, Nick was always by far the better player IMO. would suit us down to the ground.....
