What a weekend. What a season.

Second place and a trophy.

A competitive team, an entertaining team and a trophy winning team, every home game a sell out and an identity brought back to Devils hockey. That's an incredible return from one season. Given the previous 3 to 4 seasons of pain, that is superb. Big credit to the owners, backroom staff and players. Thommo and his team deserve a hell of a lot of credit. Not only has Thommo proven his worth but what a bloody likeable guy too. He knows how to lead. He's been classy, honest and upfront all season. Never once dodged a difficult question or decision. Just superb.

That final was something else. A controlled first period, totally outplayed in the second but we maintained our composure and two superb team goals built off a strong forecheck and then just pure Devils grit in the 3rd.

What a classy final as well. Credit to Tansey trying to shut his Steelers fans up as Jimmy lay on the floor. What a competitor that guy is. Took his goal well and had a good weekend too. Then you've got Fergie taking the trophy over to the Guildford fans to thank them. A lovely touch. He was honest from the outset. He moved on to win trophies and he waited for the right offer to come through. That gamble paid off for him and for us. He did all the dirty, hard graft over the weekend as he has done since joining. Then you've got Brandt facetiming (I assume) his family whilst the others raised the trophy. All really lovely things to see.

Personal highlight, Cap's goal in the semi. Nothing beats a 3rd/4th line goal, especially from someone who's growth in this team has been meteoric. He's had to wait for his time and had a few stutters but for the large part, when he was called upon, he took his chance to the extent where you couldn't ignore him. He just had to play in the build up to the playoff quarter final and then the finals weekend. What a guy.

Thank you Devils.
I’d agree with every word of that and also add that Stover deserves a mention.
First year of pro and has settled well, found a great balance of hard work and lighthearted fun in the locker room with players and coaches and has been solid when called upon.
In recent season we’ve burnt through the other pairing of Bowns but in Stover it looks like we’ve got someone solid and up and coming just as Bowns is coming towards the other end of his career. Hopefully we can hold onto both for another season, pass on some experience and knowledge and leave the team in a good place for the future when it’s time to call it a day.

A fantastic achievement by the whole squad to lift the trophy, I'm sure it will be especially sweet for those who experienced the Final last season.

As Thommo said in his interviews, we really got going around two months ago and have been the most in form team for the last 7 weeks. Sometimes when it is such a short format you can have the luck go against you in one period but the guys have been brilliant for the whole Playoffs.

So many classy posts from classy folk, and what a way to finish a season, it’s times like this that being a Devils fan is what it’s all about, a whirlwind roller coaster ride full of ups and downs , but when it stops you can’t wait to start again. And so cool to end with the sentence.
HAPPY HOCKEY DAYS

well done devils and totally deserved, the last 8 weeks we were the top team in the league and am so happy to be proved wrong about us winning silverware and also on stoever who has shown how good he is in the last couple of months and looks to have a bright future, hopefully with us.looking forward now to the summer and see what happens with our signings.

Went into this weekend with no doubt we wouldn't leave Nottingham without that Trophy. Every single player pulled their socks up for the last stretch of the season. Could not be happier. Massive kudos to Thommo and his coaching staff. Stoever, Oligny, Estes, Helgesen, Kontos and Barrow need to be tied down to multi year contracts.

The thing about an event like the awards night tonight is that you really get to find out how little of the actual truth and facts from the season we actually know and how far from reality much of the (mostly well intended to be fair) misplaced opinion and rumour that gets created is.

That one of our defence group has played for 6 months with a dislocated shoulder, that one of our stars of the season was about to walk away from the sport completely disheartened and disillusioned a year ago if it hadn’t have been for the support and actions of Todd and his team, that three of the squad are to have surgery next week for significant injuries they’ve played through, that one of our squad has genuine regrets he didn’t join us 7 years ago and stay, that approaches to buy the club for megabucks have been declined as the ownership group have no intention on cashing in because they are in this for their love of hockey and winning and not money, that for the first time in a while we have a coach (hopefully for the foreseeable future) that has the backing of the whole squad and now seemingly the fan base too, are all testament to how special this club and set-up that we have here is. As stated by one of the players, “you come to Cardiff to win” - that reputation has just been enhanced further.

It’s also a reminder of what a thoroughly decent, caring, passionate and devoted owner and manager Todd Kelman is and how far from his social media perception he is (although I’d like to think most of us know this already). I don’t think it’s said often enough but thank you Todd, thanks for all you do and for ultimately creating the feeling we all have right now.

And that video of Thommo’s team talk yesterday in Nottingham…..no team could ever underperform after that.

A brilliant weekend for the city of Cardiff with the Bluebirds also sealing promotion back up to the Championship and I'll catch on all the Devils playoffs weekend, interviews etc.
