Jeff Szwez has just signed for the Belfast Giants. Not only will Szwez be one of the tougher guys in the league he will be a very good player as well.

Szwez has played most of his career between the AHL and the ECHL were his numbers are very impressive in both leagues for a power forward.

He's also fought regularly over the last couple of season's in the AHL, and will be one of the tougher guys in the EIHL this season.. He has names like Peter Vandermeer, Paul Bissonnette, Sami Helenius, Kevin Westgarth, Aaron Downey, Jimmy Bonneau and many more decent tough guys on his fight card..

He's here to replace Awada who's out injured.. .. I can't see Thornton wanting Szwez doing the enforcing duties when we have McMorrow, though he could easy in this weak league. He's to good a player and should be used like Bergin .. :) Things are now looking much better in Belfast..

Szwez or Michel..... not comparable IMO.

Stats for ECHL Michel point every 3 games
Szwez just under a point a game.

This guy fights, scores and has played at AHL level.

fair play that guy can fight, does beg the question of whether mcmorrow is really needed now? i know the arguement that they'd rather szwez on the ice than in the bin but most teams this season dont have a fighter so its not likely he'll need to fight that regularly. Most the teams dont have a fighter so they can keep their skilled players on the ice so its not like they would be losing out.

Well he will eb gone if and when Awada is fit.Now they got a new guy that can drop them it is a waste of an import slot with McMorrow.

Thought Robins rumoured to return to Belfast because his Danish contract has fallen through? Have the Giants won the lottery or something? We can only dream about a constantly available, healthy cash pot for players at the moment! One or two I wouldn't mind seeing join the Devils in the event that an underperforming import player at the Devils is released.

"Healthy Cash Pot for Player"????

Just because Belfast are signing re-inforcements doesn't mean they are financially sound. IMO a better description (especially considering their attendances so far) would be "pushing the panic button".

You're right Finny - the capability to sign yet another player does not neccessarily reflect a healthy bank balance! However, whether we like it or not, Belfast are still up there challenging with us at the moment.
