I think we can win the league

I know its a bold statement, but looking at the other teams rosters so far, i really think we have got a good chance of winning the league. as long as all the rumours are true with the remaining signings and we dont get any serious injuries, or maybe i'm just nut's, what does everyone else think??? :twisted:

I do agree the team does look rather good at the moment, and if the rumoured signings come off, then we'll look even better.

There seems to be a hell of a lot more positivity this season from our own fans, and fans of other forums which is a good indication I believe.

Whether we can win the league or not though, need to wait and see the completed roster of all the teams

That's a bit uncalled for! Whether you've supported the Devils for one season or twenty everyone is entitled to voice an opinion.

I don't think it is we have got to be positive and by judging other EIHL teams we seem to have the right mix at the moment.

Have to agree. Nottingham don't look that good, Sheffield are still a bit of an unknown but might still lose a few of their players from last season, Belfast teams always struggle with the travel and the Blaze look solid but not outstanding. If Lyle can be consistant, the Devils certainly have the offence to win games and championships.

They are certainly the team to beat at the moment and not bringing home any trophies next season will have to go down as a major failure.

I'm not sure if your quoting my post or somebody else's but i have been supporting this team 23 years. And i agree the final 2 signings will be the key to our success. hopefully like i said i think we will win the league. Obiously the team has got to Gel and perform together, but it's looking good

It is too early to say but i would like to think we will be very strong contenders for the league this season and are probably having the best off season we've had in a while.

I have to say I haven't been so excited about a forthcoming season in a long time! The roster so far shows a change in direction of the style of play this coming year and a real intention to challenge for the League and competitions. None of the signings have disappointed and I'm sure the final 2 will make the roster even stronger.
As for winning the League - it's unrealistic to guess or assume anything yet. The Devils certainly look like a young, creative, offensive roster. Some of the teams haven't completed their rosters but more importantly the season doesn't start until September! Maybe in 6 months time we'll be in a position to guess who's in contention for things.

I have to agree I have never looked forward to a season with so much excitement and positive and i have watched the devils for 23yrs,seems like the team is shaping up nicely.I think the post asking if we can win the league comes from the fact that we will have a settled roster to start the season,also the quality of players signed both known and new!!. so i can understand the question being asked/thought. i think the last 2 signings will be key to any success we have this season.

I guess i need to clarify my other statement and flesh it out a bit.

Do we have a roster even without the two imports left to come in that can compete? Yes most definatly we do, if we dont finish in the top 4 then with the talent at our disposal then i think that will be a dissapointment and we will have underacheived.

The question though is do people think we will win the league. Which i think you have to take into account many factors.


Sheffield and Coventry: Both rosters look good and both have championship winning coaches, both of whom have been there and done it. Coventry have improved on last season and Sheffield have done incredibly well to have retained as many of last seasons squad as possible.


Our Roster: it's stacked with talent but there are a lot of guys who havent played with each other before. WE have made a good start with tieing lyle in for 3 seasons (theoretically) this will give us a head start in recruiting our defensive corps in the future, I think wiht Burge in charge we have the luxury of doing what Sheffield and Coventry have done in the past which is bring back a real strong core of guys for a few seasons. I think that will happen, but i think we might just might be behind on that slightly this season which could hurt us and be the difference in finishing 3rd or 2nd or 4th as opposed to 1st.


Arena ice: This needs to be adressed this season, i would assume that over the past few seasons we have picked up most of our points away from home at Manchester and Basingstoke where i dont think i ever seen us lose at either of those rinks. With those two now gone we have to start making the games at the Arena ice count. Again if we can do this then we shoot up from the also ran to the champion.


So thats why i think its a bit early to say i think we can win it, as i believe until these scenarios play out its going to be hard to say.


Now if you'll excuse me i'm off to phone the devils office to see if i can sort myself out with a long service badge so i can post again :lol:

I think that is key for me as well. Only Coventry and Cardiff have the smaller ice pads. All the other arenas and rinks in the country are 197 x 98 feet. I didn't realise Edinburgh's was the biggest in the country until I checked just now - deceiving. I don't think going into any arena is going to be easy next year, especially Hull, when they start turning teams over. Their scalps won't come as shocks next year I wouldn't imagine.

Have to say, the Devils are looking very strong for next season and will be top four I think. The Panthers on the other hand............

I'm really excited about this season, but I'd be more than happy with a top 3 finish and decent runs in the cup competitions. Remember it's still only year 2 of the 3 year plan, so hopefully this time next year we can be even more excited about the prospect of a major title challenge. Would be awesome if that happened this year, but I think it's a big ask to close a 20+ point gap that the leaders had on us at the end of last season even with a few improvements in the roster.
