So we are 3rd so far in the league after 7 games played with the 5th best scoring record with 19 goals and 1st place for goals conceded with 11. Looks like the D are carrying the forwards .

It seems the guys who struggled to score last year are now scoring and vice versa. Not sure if the stats have been updated for tonights game but if they haven't Brandt is now our top scorer followed by Martin and Barrow. Im sure Sanford and McDonald will find their mojo again at some point and with Barrow and Brandt scoring also we might see some higher scoring games.

Tonight's game was a Challenge Cup game so Brandt, Martin and Barrow remain tied as our top goal scorers in the league this season (each with 3).

Instead of “we have swapped goals for fists” or “ we have swapped offence for character” could it not be that we have swapped some of our firepower for a more solid defensive unit.

Estes, oligny and helgesen are massive upgrades on macwilliam , donnahy and gourley and would maybe have taken up a bigger chunk of the budget

Another way of looking at the table at this early stage (with now 13% of all league games having already been played) is to look at the standings in terms of points lost so far, and that looks like this:

1=). Cardiff = 3 points dropped
1=). Sheffield = 3
3=). Belfast = 4
3=). Manchester = 4
3=). Nottingham = 4
6). Glasgow = 6
7=). Guildford = 8
7=). Coventry = 8
9). Dundee = 9
10. Fife = 15

Exactly that for me. The three D men mentioned, for different reasons, are all massively valuable and I'm struggling to think of a better six in the last decade, added to that Bowns and Stoever being 'lights out' for most of the season, defensively there is no team I would swap with in terms of D.

Firepower was always the question mark and we are massively missing Lacroix and Yaremko in term of causing havoc and opening up space. Sanford has got a couple recently so I am cautiously optimistic that he is beginning to head out of a slump but MacDonald needs one to go in off his backside I feel to get him rolling again

Devils 3rd now...would be 2nd if our GF was better. Interesting they are positioned where they are.....with one of the lowest GF in the top half of the league.
Also got one of the lowest GA in the league....to the credit of their defensive game. And those abilities were on show last night.:cool:

So as of the end of Saturday evening (8th November) we have completed 1/7 of the league fixtures. Nottingham have the most points but Cardiff and Sheffield have dropped the fewest points so far. However the distribution of fixtures is very uneven which might distort the positions a little, flattering some teams more than others.

Looking at the top 6 teams at this stage, Cardiff and Glasgow have arguably had the hardest set of fixtures so far as the average league position of their opponents so far is 4.0, whereas Sheffield have arguably had the easiest set of fixtures so far as the average position of their opponents is 6.3. Belfast's opponents have averaged position 4.7, and Nottingham's 5.8.

Cardiff have only played two games (out of 8) against opponents outside their top 5 positioned opponents - of their 6 games against these opponents they have a 75% points percentage from these games. Nottingham have only played 4 games against their top 5 positioned opponents (and have only 50% points percentage from these); and Sheffield have only played 3 games against their top 5 positioned opponents (and also only have a 50% points percentage from these). Belfast have a 50% points percentage against the bottom 4 and 50% against their top 5 opponents.

12 of Nottingham's 16 league points so far (75%) have come against the bottom four teams in the league standings. 10 of Sheffield's 13 league points (77%) have come against the bottom four teams. 4 out of Cardiff's 13 points (31%) have come against the bottom four teams. That means only 25% of Nottingham's points have come against the top 5 opponents, 23% of Sheffield's, 50% of Belfast's, but 69% of Cardiff's.

The league is young but the standings might not yet mean quite what they seem.

We are not doing to bad for at best a 4th place team and not 1 of the arena teams, would love to see how the arena teams cope with our budget ....just saying

Now second after a great weekend, getting 4 points v Giants and Steelers, and GF has improved too. We have now scored only 3 less than Steelers and conceded 4 less.

No easy games, of course, but the remaining fixtures to the end of November (Glasgow, Dundee, Fife x 3, Manchester and Guildford) give the Devils a great opportunity to press on. Now is the time to be consistent, clinical and merciless.
Best of luck to the team and all going to Scotland next weekend. Have fun!

What a weekend, 9 goals scored 3 conceded we are the only team in the league who have scored twice as many as we have let in, good on you forwards as well as our superb defence. 28 goals for, 14 goals against. We have also lost less games that anyone else 9 played 2 lost ,one of those in OT. Having already beaten the 3 Arena teams 2 of them in their gaff, and 1 which we could have also beaten it’s looking pretty neat at this moment in time. So we are 2nd in the league, 1 point behind the leaders with 1 game in hand, good on you lads and we are also playing some pretty neat hockey so happy days at the moment. When these lads are firing on all cylinders they really are a joy to watch, and with a coach who knows the game inside out, and who is a winner at this moment in time it’s truly HAPPY HOCKEY DAYS.
