Communication around introducing the new car park and closing access beyond the pool was poor, leading to lots of confusion on Saturday, but we parked in the new car park on Sat and Sun and it worked well. Yes, it needs a proper surface and painted slots, but there is plenty of space, it is well lit (there is a black spot if you walk round the back past Fun HQ) and entry/exit is easy compared to Toys R Us.
I'd prefer not to have to pay and, like most of these charges, it impacts most heavily on the less well off; £150-£200 per year is significant. But, when councils are struggling to balance the books, I can understand that parking in the ISV area is a relatively low priority. Off-peak demand is quite low, but demand spikes hugely for Devils games. That is only 4-ish hours, 40-ish times a year - approx 160 hours out of a year and 98.2% of the year that space will be far from fully utilised. It's a big space to put aside, but hopefully our collective fivers will be put towards finishing it off (naive, I know) and providing a facility for an area that can then grow further.
I don't know if the plan below is still current, but it's the latest version I've seen of the long-term plan, which assumes Toys R Us and the pool carpark are built on / used for other (non-parking) purposes.
