3 slots left .....hoping 2 returnees, 1 new player. Historically, the Club has usually made a final new signing as one of the last announcements before the season starts.
Big rumours that roll on for weeks (or in the case of Brandt and Sanford, for 2 months) often have some substance. It wouldn't be a suprise if a couple of those we expect to stay, actually do move on for a bigger role at another Club.

If the last three signings are Brandt, Kontos, Macdonald i'm not sure how i feel about it. I like all three players but personally i wouldn't look at our group of forwards and think to myself "we are definitely stronger up front this season". Basically the meaningful changes would be losing Sanford, Ferguson, Perlini, Lacroix and adding Caron and Mieho + banking on Yaremko staying fit. I'm not saying it won't end up being a stronger group of forwards but i don't think anybody can say at this stage (If it does end up being Brandt, Kontos, Macdonald) we've definitely upgraded in that area. I love the look of our goalies and defence but i think we're in danger of standing still a bit with our group of forwards. Let's see what happens with the remaining three announcements though.
Whatever the criticism of Sanford, (and the poor guy has been vilified by some parts of the fanbase...why?) he has been a goal machine for the Devils. Would be very uncomfortable at the prospect of seeing him playing for a rival team.
We are not in a position to say anyone is an upgrade on anyone else. Won't have any idea whether the Team has improved until competitive games are played.

In terms of goal production then we have absolutely not upgraded.
But in terms of standard of forward player?
Caponi never played Pro until he joined us.
Ferguson played 3 games in the ECHL and then the whole of his pro career in the EIHL (bar 5 games in Slovakia during Covid)
Sanford had two short spells in the ECHL before joining us.
Caron has had three spells in the AHL and two in the Liiga
Mieho has spent the last decade in the Liiga or SHL.
I would expect the two new imports to be of a higher quality than the players leaving us. But neither have a history of scoring the goals that Ferguson and Sanford did. I guess the question is - will that extra quality be enough to stop teams scoring on us?

What I meant is that their production should be better than in their previous leagues (because they are a much higher quality) - but I don't think either of them will score as many as Sanford has in the past.
But, I expect their overall play to be better. That might mean creating more chances for others or restricting the chances we allow other teams.
