With no update from the Elite League this season, and with several new signings announced recently, here are my calculations as to how each teams stands with their current rosters and how many players they've signed so far. These figures exclude two-way players and under-20s as they don't count towards the roster.

Roster limits are 18 active imports at any one time, a maximum of 20 imports signed in one season, and no more than 25 total signings (of which at least 1 must be a British fully signed netminder) are allowed for the season.

Total players signed so far: 24/25

Cardiff

Nottingham already have injury problems beyond Fossier, but looking to the future, Sheffield's roster position is relatively precarious, despite their access to 2-way players. With only 4 active Brits, 21 active total and scope to bring in only one more full-time (a Brit OR an import), they could be vulnerable if they have a spate of short /medium-term injuries.

After losing in Nottingham, Steelers fans on X are pleading for half their squad to be upgraded. With only one roster spot remaining, I wonder how long before they start getting 'injuries'.

When is the IRR cut-off date this year?

February 15th is the date listed by IIHF, but given it’s a winter Olympic year it might be extended to February 28th But I haven’t seen any confirmation yet.

Which makes their treatment of Logan Neilson even more baffling - he's a solid Brit as he is showing in Fife yet he seemed to be frozen out. They are risking similar with Reece Kelly, he has come on in leaps and bounds the last 12 months but his ice time is diminishing

Derek Gentile has walked out of his Steelers contract to go to the ECHL, apparently without the club agreeing his departure.
Roster regs say 'in extraordinary circumstances, an appeal may be made to the EIHL Standards Subcommittee to replace players who have walked out.'
Wonder what Steelers' 'extraordinary circumstances' will be.

Otherwise, they are down to 16 active imports and 4 Brits, plus 2-ways, with only one roster spot still available.

I can see Steelers getting an extra signing allowed for Pu but it would be embarrassing if the league allow it for Gentile too.

The Pu situation could be argued as exceptional, but having voluntarily let Seitz and Neilson go to other EIHL clubs, I think their argument would be pretty weak. Technically, the regs only seem to allow potential replacement of a player who walks out (Gentile), not one who is sacked (Pu), though the exceptional circumstances could be created by the combined factors, I suppose.

Counter-argument is that they are wealthy club who have just made a Horlicks of this year's player recruitment and management.

Could we see a possible return of Maxim Golod for the Steelers? I know they really didn't want him to leave but for personal reasons he vacated.

Not really Steelers wanted to get shot of him, but then couldn’t sign another player, so arrange that he has left them then sign their ex NHL player. It’s called playing the system.

The salary for ECHL players is much the same as EIHL.
Over here with perks like cars and housing (I don’t know if ECHL does same) players might be better off in UK
