I suspect the reason for the late announcement is waiting for the visa to come through. I also suspect that uk ice hockey rumours has a contact in that department as he announces signings just a day or two before the club.

Kestner would be an excellent signing and just about a believable one.......... Pulkkinen less so although stranger things have happened

It's not been often in recent seasons that we are this close to training camp with signings to go, and there are no rumours at all about who and we haven't got a clue. Maybe the club has managed to plug the leak.

So I'm going to have a guess. We haven't yet utilitised Thommo and Niklas European contacts, and I think it's possible that a Swede or Finn could be one of the remaining two. Joakim Thelin has been mentioned and is an obvious link, so very possible. I'll add another similar player;

Should score plenty, and looks to be consistent with the pattern we have already gone for in terms of style. From memory we have had Saturday signings recently so I reckon by next weekend we will know the full group.
It would be a bit of a surprise if we have zero Scandinavians on our roster wouldn’t it? When Thommo and Hovivuori were announced I would have put money on 1 or 2 Swedes/Norwegians but I’m not so sure now. For a couple of months I expected Thelin to be announced but I can’t see it. I just don’t think he’s a player you announce as your last forward but maybe I’m being harsh because his CV is good. If Thommo really wanted him tho I just think he’s a player we would have announced a while ago. We’ll see.

Yes I'm surprised. I just had a look back at his Steelers rosters and there's at least a couple every year, with two seasons up to 5 Scandinavians. And it's also when he has a Swede as a AC.

I assumed he would be going a similar route here, not 5 but at least one or two. Maybe that was the original plan and they just haven't managed to convince the right guys to come. If we're looking to bring in younger guys, then I guess it's difficult to convince a quality Scandi to come to our league when I'm sure there's a handful of other countries they could go play. Some of Thommo's Swede signings in Sheffield weren't exactly success either, Yared Hagos comes to mind. Or they were at the end of their careers, like 40 year old Conny Stromberg.

I thought Register was a class act when with us. Massively underrated and under valued by a lot of the fan base during his tenure. People kept banging on about his mobility, but his vision and game intelligence was right up there in a Devils jersey. How he never reached beyond ECHL standard is beyond me. Shame we only got the 1 year!.

I’m guessing the reason he never reached beyond ECHL was due to his lack of mobility…..
