Very good point but I think we have to also be realistic about the signings. G wants a top notch 1st line - that will cost money. A Cardiff Business School deal is an excellent package for a young dman looking to make his mark. By definition, most are younger guys who are early into their career. Tyson had already made his mark, is older and more experienced - if G has found someone to directly replace him that's fantastic. Are there many dmen with wider experience out there looking for a uni deal? I'll probably end up swallowing a mountain of humble pie, but I will be gobsmacked if the Club has managed to entice the calibre of Bolibruck or Metcalf in addition to our 1st liners.. Also got the impression G wanted to secure 'team toughness' instead of specific enforcers. It implies that the McIver type of player may not now be part of the setup.

Maciver did not take up a uni place. and that uni place could be used to attract a quality player, like Bolibruck for example, this would mean that his wage demands would not be so great, and the extra funds available could be used to sign quality players for the first line.

I'ed imagine our D man to be a more than Decent ECHL player who will have the potential to make an impact. I think in terms of offensive punch though we would see more a Jason Becker than a Tepitsky.
Whcih for me wont be a bad thing at all as it appears we will be a lot less reliant of the D to chip in with the scoring this year.

Kevin Bolibruck has been strongly linked to Panthers and Steelers (suprise, suprise!). Apparently he had rejected an offer from Nottingham. News on Steelers website is that there is a snarl up with some of the signings they were hoping to have secured. :? Expect it's probably Tait, Sarich, or Finnerty they were talking about...but you never know.
I know you're joking, but having been to Kazakhstan, I'd much rather live in somewhere like Shymkent if I was Max. The weather is better, the women are far, far better looking than what the UK has to offer and the way of life is laid back. The perfect place to retire to.
As someone else said, Hurtubise is a centre so is out of the question now you have Smith. He is however an outstanding player. He ain't that fast and doesn't have the flashy skills of some of the big name EIHL players but he works his arse off, is always thinking of the team instead of himself and consistently makes the smart play. To get over one hundred points playing for last season's Caps is a remarkable achievement.

Remps - that's very true but I did notice it took ages for that website to detail that Adam Knight was a confirmed signing with Hull. Also, G announced (about 3 weeks ago) that the Club had found a d-man not long after Beynon's status changed to 'EIHL tba'. Perhaps it's me second-guessing. Intriguing! Whoever it is, we know G will be certain he'll be the right style to fit his plans. Let's hope his identity is revealed soon! :?
In the past Edinburgh have signed their players early - but then left it until late in the summer to announce all their signings. I presume it's to get the excitement going just before the start of the season - but I would have thought it would harm their season ticket sales to offer no signing news until now.
Beynon doesn't have much ECHL experience, and I'd be disappointed if he was signed as our #1 defenceman.
