Genuine question, not wanting to start a specific debate.

Do the Devils charge for the schools / girl guides etc.. ?
Devils have announced that 900 girl guides attended over the 2 games !!
Due to EVERY game being a sell out then that's a whole chunk of
adult seat lost revenue approx £18k over those 2 games alone, not including
the loss concession costs of Alcohol.

Are the hike in prices used to off-set these lost opportunity of cost ?

I'm all for investing in "future" Devil supporters, but according to all the
social media we don't need to do these promotions as we are told that
there is a list of new season ticket applications and trying to get a match
day ticket/s is nigh on impossible, so what is the objective, apart from
social responsibility but that comes at a cost, to us?

This post is wider of the mark than a Josh MacDonald sitter in front of a wide open net.

Im fairly sure they do. They might be a slightly discounted amount. Im not sure, and even if not its going to increase the percentage of junior tickets for the given night but they do pay yes. A work colleague who Ive been trying to get along for years had his daughter go with the guides and she's mad keen to go back but he's given up trying to get tickets as its too hard so it clearly works as a marketing tool, although maybe too well. Another (ex) work colleague with 2 girls who got into hockey via the guides was planning on getting the 3 of them season tickets this year but can't justify the new prices.

Hi Martyn

All groups of 20+ receive £1 off per ticket and have the advantage of pre-booking to sit together before the game is released on sale. We have charged the group rate to GirlGuiding Cymru every season we have hosted them and there is this misconception in the fanbase that we give away tickets for free to groups such as these and schools. We don't and never have done since moving into the Arena.

The reason we actively maintain these relationships is because often we are introducing people to a sport they would never have even considered, plus its a great team day out.

Hope this clarifies the situation.

Having a Bsc in applied mathematics and currently working as an Actuary in the London Insurance market (for the past 20’ years), I know my %ages - they normally get audited on a daily basis :).

So with figures already offset (as you acknowledge above) and energy prices confirmed as coming down as announced earlier this week, your energy figures don’t add up. 70% in real terms is nowhere near.

If you are trying to justify a 20%+ increase on energy prices versus past figures v today already offset by prior ST rises and the other cross-selling increases you are mistaken I’m afraid.
That's all true for home energy costs - but businesses are completely different aren't they? The price cap doesn't apply to them.

This article suggests that for businesses electricity costs went up by 90% between 2021 and are likely to go up again this year.
https://www.glcg.co.uk/blogs/what-are-the-current-business-electricity-rates-in-the-uk-2026

And I'd imagine that article was written before Trump decided to bomb Iran so energy prices are likely to increase even further.

I've stayed out of this discussion because I don't get to go to games very often in the last couple of years and haven't had a season ticket for a very long time. And I will happily admit that at those prices I won't be getting a season ticket any time soon.

But I have been disappointed at some of the accusations and claims on here and social media. Suggestions that the owners and management are rising prices so they can give themselves bigger payrises and better cars.
Seriously? No wonder Belfast fans screenshot some of the posts on here to mock them.

Much of the season has been spent pointing out that our roster was lacking the quality (particularly in goalscoring) of the other big teams. And how people were fed up of setting for 4th.
Now, we have the club saying we're going to put up prices to pay for a better roster - and people aren't happy about that either.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I'm guessing some fans think the club should be run at a loss with the owners putting in their own money to make up the shortfall? That's simply not fair, not right and not sustainable.

In recent years Sheffield and Belfast have got their acts together off the ice. They're now getting near sell outs at most games and are in a different budget level to us if we try to charge similar prices to them. So either we accept we are not going to compete for league titles or we start to pay more.

We had lunch with our in-laws last weekend. My brother in law said he had been watching the Olympics, loved the hockey and wanted to go to a game with us in Cardiff. I told them about the 'fury' over season tickets and when I told them they were now over £700 they were both shocked. My wife also suddenly decided that she was happy for me to keep my sub £400 Cardiff City season ticket instead..........

I said that individual ticket prices were going up too - I wasn't sure to what but I'd guess at around £25-£30. Their response was "Oh - that's not bad at all. Can you get us some tickets for the next game?".
And I did.

And that's the point. The fanbase for the club at the moment is big enough that people are willing to pay £25-£30 to go to a game once a month or so. And at the moment we are still selling out every game.
The problem is that at those prices, season tickets become very expensive and less affordable. But if you reduce season tickets' price per game by too much then you have even more people wanting season tickets. So you end up losing money.

It's a big gamble by the club to effectively move towards a business model where you rely more on occasional fans than season ticket holders - but it's a gamble the club arguably have to take. If they stick with the current model and every season our budget only allows us to target 4th - how much longer will we sell out each game?

That still don’t explain how we are going to get closer to the Arena budgets, because we up our budget and they do the same so how does the gap get any closer. Surely the only way the gap will close is if we get a similar Arena , or there’s a strict wage restriction, and neither of these is going to happen to we are surely in the same boat.

You are right Glynne, we have no chance of matching the budgets of the 3 big arena teams, the great rebrand didn't achieve it, thats the way it was sold to us, what is a price rise going to do apart from drive fans away. We were a 4th place team with Bob, Matt Burge and even Ragan apart from his last season, but we had a couple of 2nds and very close 2nds, the match nights were better the cameraderie between fans was better and we had lower budget teams over achieving and it was far more entertaining. It was a fun club to be a part of. Now it's boring hockey, repetetive match night 'entertainment' and watching a team not competing

We all gave time as volunteers and protesters to get a rink replacement, temporary and permanent and spent time at countless meetings with CCC and developers to achieve that dream of a permanent ice facility in Cardiff.

Knowing what you do now Glynne, would you go back and do the same thing again?

And if the same things were happening again, would you bother?

A few years ago we were getting average gate money for games involving scottish clubs especially midweek games, 3 fife games and as far as I know the other 2 scottish clubs games have been sellouts at home, Including the DH coming up v Dundee , so the club are doing something right and sellouts are the future of the club , long may it continue I say . And I am renewing mine at a struggle as done so the last 39 ish yrs. Weekends wouldn't be the same with out ice hockey 7 months a yr...just saying

This is what the club are depending on, maybe or they hope that you give in and they can sell your concession seat on for normal adult rate. It is people like you that have kept this club going over the last 40 years. Tha fact that concessions have risen the highest percentage just shows that your loyalty means nothing and they would love to boot you out for a few quid more per seat

Stop talking so much sense. That wasn’t entertaining to read at all

I'm not sure how you claim it was better with 1500 crowds (if we were lucky) compared to 3000 crowds now?

You might not be enjoying the match nights as much or cameraderie, but it everyone felt that way then wouldn't the crowds be smaller?

And yes we might have been closer to competing back then, but that was because the arena teams were getting almost half the crowds that they are now.

What is your solution? Sack the management and........?

Well if we didn't up our prices and they did then it's likely that we will fall even further behind.
We're not going to get a similar arena any time soon. And I can't see a strict wage cap happening anytime sooner.
So what is the solution?

But now we have so they will surely follow suit, also if we never then whos to say they would. We will never win an arms race we just widen the gap between 4th and 5th to 10th.

And i keep saying it, the club and players are the only ones who will benefit from this. future players will ask for more now knowing this
Surely it's more a case that we will be able to offer more money to attract higher quality players?

With the greatest of respect to the players we have now, our roster in recent years isn't of the calibre that we had under the last couple of Lordo years.
