Nope, because I happen to be in Nottingham and can't afford to bid on one...

Not sure why the people who disliked the idea of the money going to the DCF above the Royal British Legion should now be pressured into bidding?

For what it's worth, I don't believe for one minute that the article was badly worded, but at least they've come out and acknowledged the problem instead of ignoring it.

For the poster who mentioned that the current owners are the same as the old owners, I think it's fairly safe to assume that isn't the case at all

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong but basically:

-The club announced at a recent game that they would be doing a Rememberance Day shirt to support the Poppy Appeal.
-Kipper asked if the money would be going to the Appeal. So he went and asked Matt Burge to confirm this. Which he did.
-The club announce details of the nights activities. One minute silence. Special SOHB. Auction in the bar afterwards.
-Several fans suggest the money is not going to the Appeal.
-Kipper speaks to Matt Burge who once again confirms that all profits will be going to the Appeal.
-Matt Burge posts an announcement on the official site confirming this.

So what are we the Angry Mob suppossed to be arguing about? Are we accusing Matt Burge and Kipper of being liars? If so I call shotgun on not saying that to Kippers face tonight.

I have to be honest, the first time I read the PR I didn't notice that it didn't explicity say the money was going to the Appeal. It was only after the fuss on here that I went back and re-read it again to check that it actually inferred that the money would be going to the DCF to split between local charities. Though it still doesn't actually say that the money from the auction is going to that, I guess it depends on your interpretation of the word 'and' in the relevant sentence.

Anyway, from what I can work out Matt Burge decided from the start to give the money to the Poppy Appeal. That has never changed and is what is going to happen. It would appear though that there was a mis-communication at some point with the person who did the PR. That has now been rectified.
Surely though regardless of what they thought - the money was never going to go anywhere other than where Matt Burge decided. He owns the club and is in charge of the bank accounts. Do we really think that the money was going to go elsewhere without him knowing?

God forbid that Matt Burge is a successful businessman who doesn't have the time to oversee everything to do with the Devils?

no because its not something i do...however i do find that remark quite offensive. Emotions run high when your talking about taking money from our main HM Forces charity whilst at the same time promoting them.

IF the money goes to the correct recipients, then all well and good. Has it been done with full intentions or simply a U-turn? I remain critical having heard from a good source that the later is the case.

if anyone wants to be sure their money is to go to the poppy appeal if they look at http://www.poppy.org.uk/support-us/give-money they can print out both a donation form and the ALL IMPORTANT gift aid form to ensure the revenue will pay an extra 20% to the appeal.

So my suggestion if you bid and win, pay the club the cost of the shirt and hand the club representative a completed donation form and gift aid form to cover the rest of their winning bid......

Please read this link: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/gift_aid/rules/auctions.htm before you decide to do this. It is clearly stated in this article that payments made for items won in charity auctions can only have a portion of the price allocated to Gift Aid, and then ONLY when the item is commercially available at a fixed price, and the bidder is aware of that before the auction. These shirts are not commercially available at a fixed price as they are unique items, therefore the value of each shirt is the price the winning bidder decides to pay and no part of that payment will be eligible for Gift Aid.

For example, if the auction was for normal, unworn, unsigned replica shirts from the shop, which can be purchased for (I think) £50, and a bidder who knew that they were available to buy for that price then decided to pay £100 for the shirt at auction, then the £50 difference in price would be eligible for Gift Aid. As this is clearly not the case, payments for these special one-off, gameworn shirts will not be eligible. I hope this clarifies the situation.

Well one thing that saddens me , all these people who are disgusted at the club for their original decision will no longer want to go to Devils games :cry:

That was why this made me so angry. It was a stupid situation to end up in around what should have been a great gesture and show of goodwill.

What i meant is, all the people who expressed their ''outrage'' will no longer go to Devils games as,surely their principles wont let them put any money into the ''disgusting'' managements pockets !!

Please dont get me wrong,i am not making light of this topic as a very good friend of mine had a family member killed in Afganistan but i just find the nastiness (for want of a better word) that was displayed on here was appalling,instead of finding out first. It may be a Uturn or it may have been misinterptided (sp). People claim to know which it is,does it , i dont really care as now, the money is going to where it should be. This,of course is only my personal opinion.

Anyway i'm done with this topic.

I've read through this thread over the last few days and it really is peeing me off, why? Both charities are worthy, yes the poppy appeal is a good one but having the money used for the kids of Cardiff is not to be sneezed at. So does it really matter in the huge sceme of life? God worse thing happen. :cry:

A total of £3520 at the jersey auction & £695 SOHB raffle = £4215 was raised for the RBL poppy appeal tonight thanks to Matts change of heart. I look forward to that amount being handed over next week to the RBL. It's a shame that it's illegal to claim gift aid on sporting memorabilia as that would made a big difference.

Well done Devils nice to see it go to such a worthy cause.

The total raised was actually £4,155 including the SOHB takings (I've checked and double-checked the figures). That's a great total for an excellent cause and thanks must go to all who bought shirt off his back tickets this evening and stayed after the game for the auction - nobody complained at the late start (because of the game running late) and I had been worried that the auction might be affected as supporters would want to get home. It was nice to see so many people there bidding. Well done to all of you.

Thanks also to Brent who did an excellent job for us once again on the microphone.

Time to hit the sack now - I'm absolutely cream-crackered!

I don't want to turn this back to a negative thread but the press release from Matt Burge clearly states that it is 100% of profits which will be handed over. Unless CH sports donated the shirts for free I imagine that the total handed over will be significantly less than the cumulative amount of the bids as the costs to the devils will be deducted?

Just announced on BBC Wales that over £4000 was raised in aid of The Poppy Appeal. Well done everyone who bid and to Mike and Viv for all their hard work with the shirts.

Wouldn't it be a nice gesture if the cheque could be handed over to Mike Dixon and the Sea Scouts on the ice at next week's game in recognition of their sterling efforts in fund raising for the Poppy Appeal

Having now slept and used a calculator rather than quickly in my head I make it £4205 but Devildrums did the auction so I’m sure he is correct, I had trouble hearing auction at times due to the over noisy crowd sat at the back. Details of prices fetched are listed below:
