Devils 8-3 Vipers

After losing to the Vipers on Saturday 2-1, the Devils came out with something to prove and practically won the game in the 1st period.

With both teams missing players, Jarvis for the Devils and Longstaff for the Vipers it was Dean Smith who took charge of the game. It was the Devils who opened the scoring first after Vipers Domish was binned for holding at 0:43. Just over 1minute into the powerplay the Devils struck...

Devils 1-0 Vipers. Smith from Voth and Richardson at 1:59.

The Devils continued to press home the advantage with some superb play and reminding everyone why they are title contenders this season. A little over 2minutes had passed when Birbraer assisted by Voth causing havoc behind the Vipers net grabbed the 2nd Devils goal.

The Vipers continued to suffer at the hands of the Devils before conceding another penalty at 7:14 when Petricko was called for holding. just over 30seconds late the Devils had taken a 3 goal lead and the Vipers were looking dead in the water...

Devils 3-0 Vipers. Hill from Latulippe at 7:53.

After this goal the Vipers took a timeout to collect their thoughts and try to control the Devils. The 1st period finished with the Devils leading 3-0, however both teams had had chances to get a goal only to be denied by the pipework. The period started with a raft of penalties but the Devils looked to be in control until after defending a 3on5 penalty kill for a full 2minutes, the Devils conceded to the Vipers and gave up a goal.

The Devils were quick to capitalise on a powerplay opportunity handed to them just over halfway into the game when Kralj was called for slashing at 33:39. Just 20 seconds later the Devils had regained their 3 goal lead...

Devils 4-1 Vipers. Voth from Romfo and Michel at 33:59.

It was another powerplay goal to end the second period when the Vipers were again penalised at 38:49 after Mike Berry was called for interference. This time the goal came from the Devils 1st line and Birbraer got his 199th EIHL assist, 1 more to go...

Devils 5-1 Vipers. Smith from Birbraer at 39:55.

The 3rd period started with Vipers replacing Robinson with backup netminder Lawson, despite a scoreboard malfunction showing the Vipers to be winning 1-83 it was the Devils who took a 5 goal lead when Matt Towe sponsored by The-Inferno grabbed his 1st goal of the evening...

Devils 6-1 Vipers. Towe from Adams at 54:36.

Unfortunately the Vipers cut the Devils lead to just 4 goals a little over 1minute later after Devils player Hayes was penalised for tripping at 54:59.

Devils 6-2 Vipers. Domish from Berry and Kralj at 55:37.

The-Inferno sponsored Matt Towe grabbed his second goal of the evening just 1 minute later. With the Devils down to 4men after Romfo was binned for holding at 56:16 the Devils scored a shorthanded goal...

Devils 7-2 Vipers. Towe from Richardson at 56:43.

Again just 1minute later it was the Devils who scored again when Mark Smith collected the puck in the Vipers zone after a lucky bounce beat Lawson and proceded to slam home the puck against the undefended Vipers net. another shorthanded goal...

Devils 8-2 Vipers. Smith from Stone at 57:57.

It was the Vipers who managed to get the last goal of the evening though when some rare Vipers pressure resulted in the Vipers setting up right infront of Lyle and beating him...

Devils 8-3 Vipers. Mahrle from #20 at 58:40.

With the Devils having scored 17 goals now against the Vipers in the past 2 games at the Cardiff Bay Arena, the Vipers may be wondering what on earth is happening...
