We got Luke Piggott's views on the weekend’s games and the forthcoming game against the Raiders....
"Last weekend we faced 2 young and hungry oppositions in Bracknell and at home to Milton Keynes, both will be looking to make the play-offs this year so to come away with 4 points (7-2 @ Bracknell and 5-3 v MK) from the weekend was a great achievement. The team is really starting to gel as new line-mates become more familiar with each other and this is very evident on the ice. As soon as we cut out the few silly basic errors in our game then I don’t see a team in this league we can’t beat. It was especially nice to see our secondary scoring coming through on Sunday, the 3rd line of Sedlak-Sadler-Preece was outstanding and it just goes to show the depth within the squad, any line is capable of winning us games and that will be key as we push for silverware this season. This weekend we play last season’s League Champions and Play-off finalists Wightlink Raiders, they look a weaker outfit then last year but still have plenty of danger guys, especially new import Joe Rand, and Jeremy Cornish will be looking to improve on recent results so we expect a tough physical encounter! I expect this to be one of the best games this season and I know first-hand that myself and the boys love nothing more than playing in front of a big loud crowd of the Red Army, there’s no substitute for the devoted fans of The Cardiff Devils to really get the team going!"
The Isle Of Wight come into this game full of confidence after a convincing 9-3 win v Bristol Pitbulls and a close encounter with Oxford City Stars with the Raiders winning 4-3.
Raider’s snipers to date include Joe Rand with 23pts in 8 games, Arran Strawson 14pts in 8games and Dominic Hopkins 11pts in 8 games.
We can’t forget to give an old Elite League mention to Jeremy Cornish. Player coach for the Raiders and he’s built a very good team since he began the post back in 09.
This game is one not too miss! Always entertaining, at least 1 fight and you will always go home from these games with a smile on your face. If you haven’t been to an ENL game yet, then this game is the perfect one to attend..
