Jesse MychanContinuing the Inferno pre-season interrogations of our new recruits, Jesse Mychan steps up to take some questions. Mychan, hailing from Saskatchewan, spent last year with the Colorado Eagles and even earned himself a call up to the Portland Pirates. Not a player afraid to stand up for his team-mates, his physical style of play should fit well with the Devils. We chat to Jesse about his hockey so far and his hopes for the season

The-Inferno - How and when did you get involved in Ice Hockey?

Jesse Mychan - I started playing when I was 3 years old, growing up in Saskatchewan it's what you do.

The-Inferno - What attracted you to the UK? Did you know much about the league and UK Hockey in general before you were approached by the Devils?

Jesse Mychan - I thought about going to Europe this year, then Cardiff contacted my agent and it looked like a good fit for me, the city and organization was appealing to me

The-Inferno - Have you had a chance to look at the league and the rivalries that the Devils have in the Elite League as yet ? If so do you have any thoughts?

Jesse Mychan - I haven't looked at the rivalries but I treat every game the same.

The-Inferno - Is there anyone over here that you've played with before? A lot of our signings to date seem to know someone who's on the roster or played for us before!

Jesse Mychan - No, there isn't but I recently played with a guy that was in the league for a number of years  and he had a lot of good things to say about it.

The-Inferno - We see that you’re not afraid to stand up for your team mates and drop the Gloves where needed, have you had a look at the leagues crop of tough guys? Any thoughts coming in?

Jesse Mychan - I am confident in my ability to stand up for my team mates and myself when it's needed and of course for the fans!

The-Inferno - Can you give us an insight into what Devils fans can expect from yourself?

Jesse Mychan - I play a gritty game getting into the hard areas, I am a physical player who will chip in offensively to help this team win a championship any way I can.

The-Inferno - We haven't had a true power forward for a few seasons now, could you give us an idea of what we can expect from yourself in that role? And have you been warned about the referees?

Jesse Mychan - I definitely pride myself on being a strong power forward and you can expect me to play that game every night and establish myself around the league. As for the referees, we tend to get to know each other pretty quickly.

The-Inferno - What have you been told about the Big Blue Tent (The rink we currently have)? Was the proposed new venue an incentive to signing for the Devils?

Jesse Mychan - Just that its a pretty exciting place to play and that the fans are loud and that sparks the team, so that's an advantage and I am excited to see the rink in person.

The-Inferno - We like to ask players if they have set themselves goals for the season to come and what expectations they have of their own and the team’s performance. Have you set yourself any goals for the season?

Jesse Mychan - My main goal is to help this team win a championship and develop myself as a pro hockey player.

The-Inferno - Can you tell us what your proudest achievement to date as a pro hockey player?

Jesse Mychan - Attending Vancouver Canuck's main camp in 2013 was a big step for my career and big a learning curve for me but I am proud of my accomplishment.

The-Inferno - You had a call up to the AHL last season, how amazing was that opportunity for you?

Jesse Mychan - It was a great experience and I took what I could from it to help me develop.

The-Inferno - The BBT has the fans sitting quite high above the ice and it really does rock when the fans see an opposition player turned over. What's the best venue you've played in so far?

Jesse Mychan - The best venue I have played in so far was the Budweiser Centre in Colorado, they have passionate fans that love a gritty game.

The-Inferno - What do you consider the strongest part of your game and what 1 thing would you improve - and why?

Jesse Mychan - The strongest part of my game is getting in on the fore-check and recovering pucks along with my physical play.

The-Inferno - Anything else you would like to add?

Jesse Mychan - I am very excited for the season, I have had great support from the fans already through social media and I am very honored to be a part of the Cardiff Devils and their history and look forward to playing with this group of guys.
