Sorry to post this on here, and I hope the mods can turn a blind eye for a little while...but it's a good cause...

On the weekend of 22/23 August members of the Cardiff Demons ice hockey team along with support from family, friends and the Devils Community Foundation, will be climbing to the summit of Snowdon (1,086m) wearing full ice hockey kit (minus the skates!) to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

During the short time that the team has been in existence, we have already taken part in the Sport Relief 2008 (running the mile in full ice hockey kit), and following a sequence of events linked to team members and their families during 2008 and 2009 it was felt that another fundraiser was due...and this time specifically to help the Anthony Nolan Trust with the lifesaving work they do in the battle against leukaemia.

Please support us if you can by making a donation online or, if you prefer, in person (please email contact@cardiff-demons.com with the words "Anthony Nolan" in the subject line to make arrangements).

A specific fundraising page has been set up and any donation, large or small, would be greatly appreciated. Please remember also to tick all the necessary boxes relating to gift aid if you are a UK tax-payer.

Hi all,

Just a quick note to say that the climb is going ahead this weekend, and we've just passed the half-way mark for our target based on online donations (yet to tot up the offline ones).

Thank to those that have sponsored us already (online and offline). If anyone would like to sponsor us and has yet to do so, the link is above...and just in case a sympathy angle is worth pitching...it looks like we'll be doing this in the rain!

Cheers

Aye...we did it...and some of us are still suffering the after-effects!!

Huge thanks to everyone that has sponsored us. We've passed the £500 target and still have a few more that have promised to sponsor us, so it's all been worthwhile.

Highlights of the trip:

- The look on people's faces as they turned a corner on the path to see six guys in hockey kit walking towards them out of the mist

- The look on everyone's face as we walked into the visitors centre on the summit

- Meeting a woman up top who latched onto us and told us she used to watch the Devils "back in the day" and then started praising Mo, Shannon, MC, Coops etc. with absolutely no signs of moving on

- The ceremonial face-off with the visitor centre manager (possibly a first?!)

- Meeting the Giants fans on the way back down who told us that "the Giants will be climbing Everest next year, so they will"

- Getting back down again after 6 hours.

Cheers

Ger
