Cardiff Ice Hounds - Strengthining Line Up

Thread starter #1
Following a relatively quiet off season, the Cardiff Ice Hounds have been busy over the last month or so trying to attract players to the club, in readiness for their 2010/11 Southern Conference campaign. Having finished second in the pool stages and then coming third in the play-offs, the club is eager to build on their successful inaugural season in the competition.
High on the shopping list was some depth to the defencesive line up, so the signing of Dominic Curran from Cardiff Rampage and Andy Vick from roller hockey's Voodoo provides the coaches with options that they weren't lucky enough to have last season. It's hoped that Monday's training session will bring the signing of another defenceman, to add further rigidity to the back.
Up front Andrew Davies also crosses over from roller hockey, helping with filling the gap left by Ben Brown who joined the Cardiff Devils ENL2 squad. Gavin Burns joined the squad from the Rampage, adding a much needed additional Centre.
These signings - along with some signings still to be finalised - give the Ice Hounds a depth that they lacked last season, which effectively saw them hampered by injury during the all important Southern Conference Cup Play-offs.
The club would ideally like to sign an additional netminder, to take the pressure off Martin Chalke, by Christmas and then the club feels that it's in a strong position for their opening matches (which are provisionally booked for January).
As a pre-season warm up, the Ice Hounds kick off their annual Cardiff Ice Hounds Christmas Cup Series on Monday, in which the team is split in two, white versus blue, for a best of three cup series. The Whites came home with the silverware (and the bragging rights) last year.
The games are played in their training session, on Mondays at 9:45pm.
