Disappointing to learn that so many ST fans left without a promised puck. Very Poor planning. The office know how many STs have been sold and should have had enough pucks to ensure promises made are promises kept.

Lots of keyboard warriors about yesterday evening about the new logo - it’s not how I would have done it, but I suspect I will become used to it. To me what is important is how the team performs and the three signings announced more than made up for what some might describe as a disappointing or unnecessary new logo.

At the end of the day, it’s what the Management decided, and whether I agree or disagree, I’m not sure too much sleep will be lost by those who decided a rebranding was needed.
I disagree about the level of signings announced making up for the logo... The signings are pertinent to the upcoming season, players come and go.

The logo is a mainstay and intended for the foreseeable future. It's the single identifiable marker of the Cardiff Devils. That is much more important.

Why why why could they not consult with the fans, and release 3 concept designs to vote on?
Because they'd rather continue to spout the bullshit about fan engagement then actually do it, the fact they believe it says C and D on the horns is proof it was a circle jerk, the design is insulting to fans it looks like the Belfast logo that was left out in the sun too long.

Had they actually cared about fan engagement they could of ended up with a really cool design but no it's kept behind closed doors and dumped on our laps with a like it or lump it attitude.

Alot of the import players in the eihl are journeymen as such so I doubt the rebrand will affect the performance on ice..but its an absolute travesty for the fans and identity of the club, alot of people will associate the old logo with history/memories

Amen!

I cringed when they said "C and D" in the horns". Embarrassing.

Our old emblem was a brand, it was iconic. It stood for history and success. It was instantly recognisable. This new one stands for commercialism and sell out. A bit like the ice pad. At least it's consistent. I can tolerate the ice pad. Sponsors on the ice = ££££'s. I get that. The change in the badge.... it's mindless and so out of touch.

Its flat out an insult to fans intelligence, I know the owners will read the posts but honestly I want them to stop with the lies about fan engagement.

Just admit it's not about engaging with the fans anymore it's all about making profit, that I can accept, the lying about engaging with fans is just insulting.

Sometime rebrands are needed especially if new owners want to stamp their mark on it. It also helps with merch sales IF the rebrand is right.
I think they could have rebranded with changing the logo.
For instance keep the logo but ad a solid circle surround with "Cardiff Devils Est. 1986" within the solid circle. It's still a new logo but keeps the old logo incorporated sort of like Wilkes barre Scranton.......

You see what I'm trying to get at. It's the same but different.

That's just standard designer bs to add justification to the concept. Like when Belfast's rebrand went on about what the slightly different colour teal was supposed to denote. Not sure anyone falls for it.

As for the logo, I actually don't mind it and when placed next to the iconic one it does look more modern and make the previous one look fussy. I can understand why it was done and why its needed. Our whole brand graphics package has felt a bit cobbled together with whatever was cool from the last 10 years or so, so this is a chance for a fresh start. Also doesn't the rights of the old logo still belong to Shannon or something?

Do I like the new logo better than the last ? No. I think the new one is incredibly generic and lacks any of the inventiveness of the previous, and once you've seen the penguin in the eye you can't unsee it. The old logo has been part of our identity for 20 odd years and I will miss it. Its the way logos are going however and it's not going away so we may as well embrace it.

Difference being
it's not going away so we may as well embrace it.
Can't force people to embrace something they had no input in, would of made way more sense to let the fans vote on the new logo and shown a few different concepts, they can't say they want to be engaging with the fans then pull a stunt like this behind closed doors and act like we were part of the process.

The previous logo was embarrassing. An over complicated mess that looked like Dracula straining on the toilet. I have always hated it, this rebrand is long overdue.
People moaning are just reactionaries who can't cope with change

It’s with a very sad heart that I think the club are pushing fans further and further away, the family feel is sadly drifting away and that’s a great shame. Devils fans are very proud of their club, and love it’s history, but also know we have to move on, but the club send out the vibes there on a different page now, and it’s them and us. Money of course is a huge factor, and I would love the club to be the richest in the league why wouldn’t you, but sometimes money comes at a cost, and money can split the strongest of families. We were extremely fortunate to have been once on the same path, and all pulling together as in the RED ARMY, but we seem to have arrived at the crossroads now, and that is such a real shame. So many people feel let down by last nights nightmare, not 1 or 2 but many, and that’s not a great way to feel yes you won’t please all the people all the time, but very often when families feel divided it’s about communication, it’s about talking and we certainly seem lacking in that process lately. Anyway sorry for the rant but I feel like a family member is sadly drifting away, we don’t have a god given right to make decisions, but a slight input might have helped.

I said earlier I was indifferent on the logos and still am. The reaction will die down and people will get over it.

For the all criticism and ridicule aimed at the new logo you could aim most of it at the old one too. Angry constipated man etc etc. The cap fits on both really. In terms of modern logo and branding the old one would be seen as too busy and needing to be simpler.

The new one is still one of the better logos in the league IMO, but there will always be a bias to go against change. I think we were due a rebrand whether this logo is it will remain to be seen, no one is going to stop coming. A lot of reaction on here is very over the top - you’ll still be sat in your seats in a few weeks.

But the shop might be empty !

I must confess I quite like the new "Wordmark", if that was used on merch instead I might change my mind.

Do you watch the Devils for the Ice Hockey or the logo?.

I agree the logo isn’t how I would have rebranded it, but I don’t see any of the Devils owners or management losing any sleep over whether I like the new logo. It could be worse - Steelers play in Orange.

I don’t like the price of the merchandise in any event, it doesn’t equate to good value imo, so it won’t matter to me either way, but I watch the Devils for the Ice Hockey not the logo

I watch the Devils for the ice hockey... But the branding of the Devils around marketing and bringing in new fans is important to me. I like to see the logo when I am about and about (something that I have seen more and more of, and I don't live in Cardiff).

I am not against a change of logo. However, the choice of logo is what has baffled me. It's stale, poorly drawn and doesn't fill me with a sense of pride about the team I support in the way that the previous logo does - the previous logo is iconic and I feel that should have been taken into account.

That's where it matters for me.

I think that if merch sales are down this season then it is only down to the rebrand and pricing, So that would worry any owner. Allot of money comes from merch sales.
