Fighting with your Helmet on

Thread starter #1
Have had a look at Olson's 2 fights with Deeds, 1 with Marsh, 1 with Sestito and another one with a Steeler (forgotten name at present).

1. Is his helmet stuck on with something as it stays on in every fight.
2. It's all well and good fighting someone with a helmet on with theirs off, bit unfair to me.

Go on, Olson be man remove the helmet when you go with somebody. Let's see the outcome.

Couldn't agree more. Olson is obviously a very tough guy but its a big advantage keeping your helmet on. He needs to man up and take it off just like most other guys he fights.

It could be argued that getting the other players helmet off is part of the fight just like trying to pull the shirt over their head. (Which is why there is a fight strap on the base of the shirt).
However with Olsons height it is hard to remove his helmet so it is bit unfair.
Take it off big man.
In saying that with Deeds height disadvantage he is always punching from below so should be able to connect with his chin at a stretch :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly in all those fights (might be an exception) the other guy didn't "take" off their helmet out of respect, Olson ripped it off as part of the fight. I believe the same happened last night against Sestito (have to see the video again) and Olson pulled it off (hence why Sestito's helmet had to be repaired). I'm no fighting expert but surely if the fight take place in play (i.e. not a panto fight), you don't wait to take off your helmet, you just get stuck in and if the other guy can't get yours off, it's his bad luck.

Olson must superglue his on! I'm no expert either but I just think moat tough guys don't feel the need to keep it on and find time to take it off or at least loosen the chin strap. Maybe someone who studies the dark arts more could comment. I remember Voth always seemed to find time to take his helmet off.

Think that sums it up.

I'd agree with this. Looks like Olson had no problem taking the helmet off in this previous fight with Sestito.

Occasionally you'll see the fight pause for the second guy to take his helmet off, but I don't think there's any obligation where one helmet is knocked off/removed.

If when the players tie up they grab at Olson helmet it will come off, Olson just happens to be better at ripping or knocking players helmets of fast at a start of a fight... People used to cry on forums about staged fights when players would drop gloves and helmets and have fights at centre ice.. Now some people are complaining because of spontaneous fights and players not taking their helmets off and squaring up.

No body has offered Olson to a fair go centre ice yet, but if they do Im sure we will see helmets off and squaring up.

Here's plenty of videos to show Olson helmet is not cemented on.

Just tempers the tough guy image for me. I mean I'd have a crack at an on ice fight as long as I can keep a helmet on.

Like a boxing match where one fight goes bare knuckle and the other has gloves.

Not saying that there is any obligation but come on Benny boy let's see what you can do without the helmet there to protect you.

Removing the helmet is a respect thing. It hurts a hell of a lot more and is far worse on the hands punching a helmet than a head. Bit of tough guy code. However I'm going to stand up for Olson here. A lot of his fights are in play fights not set ups and in those particular cases think you're entitled to just get on with it. If the guy can't get you're lid off that's his problem but at the end of the day a fight is a fight. When you swing that fist you're trying to knock a guy out so the code is open to interpretation at the best of times. Olson is very good at what he does. Think people just need to accept Coventry have the biggest dog in the yard this year.

The helmet doesn't really offer protection to the punch it just destroys the other guys hands. The fairness aspect isn't protection but about the other guy having to pick his spots rather than just firing away.

But the newest one of those was 3 years ago. Not seen the helmet come off this year.

As said previously on here, it's the code of fighters. Sometimes you will see them take their helmets off, but its part and parcel of a fight to get your opponents helmet off to save your knuckles .

McMorrow was well known for removing his helmet and spinning it on the ice, he also always seemed to end up at centre ice though probably more for his own ego so he could celebrate afterwards.

The Giants have yet to play the Blaze this season and Edinburgh also for that matter but Keefe and Olson have gone before so that might be a good one if it happens.
