Lines

Thread starter #1
With the roster nearly complete, I'm interested to see what everyone thinks the lines will be? I have been having a discussion with my dad and he thinks we've got too many power forwards and may struggle putting the puck in the net on all 3 lines. Thoughts please??

First: Lord falkner blight
Second: conway myres max?
Third: hill davies batch
Fourth: cj piggot quiney.
My thoughts with regards to this team is we might be a little lacking if we dont get a good offence d man to run pp like weller and biz did. First line will score heavily, second reasonable and third and fourth will chip in whilst tiring opposition

We will be just Dandy, our fire power to me including a good offence D Man will be fine, we look very strong at the back, and have a wicked netminder. Its time for the other lot to worry about us now.
HAPPY HOCKEY DAYS.

Look at last year's team and season. One of the major components missing was the power forward role ........someone to provide aggression on a line, get the puck to the goalscorers and also put up some good points themselves. The team suffered through injuries and also through being bullied. The players who could provide aggression and protection were injured themselves.
Devils look like a totally different animal this year...tough and balanced. No more being bullied and games are going to be exciting. Fortress BBT just like the good old days!

may struggle putting the puck in the net? You tell that to blight and faulkner ;) with the protection they have this season they will be putting the bread in the basket just for the giggle of it.

I wouldn't class mac and blight as power forwards, these two will bury the biscuit have no doubt, I hope blighter starts to score the goals a bit quicker than last season as by his own admission he does tend to start slow!! then he tends to be on fire come the end of the season, Mac hopefully will continue where he left off ie scoring for fun (fingers crossed) and either lord or conboy chip in, these are our power forwards and along with the D men signed are the protectors of mac and blight although chris has feisty streak to him   I would like to see hilly step up his physicality this season and hopefully with myers in the team phil will grab the game by the neck and give it a shake
anyhows August 31st cant come quick enough, two more to go one hopefully max and the teams complete

I would like to see Hill play on the same line as Conboy as he seems to have lost his spark since voth left. obviously having not seen the new players play yet its hard to judge where they would fit and depends on the chemistry they have whilst playing together but id go with something like this:

First: Blight Falkner Max(if he returns)
Second: Conboy Myers Hill
Third: Lord Davies Batch( if playing forward)

To be honest I can't believe after last season that Ben Davies is still on 3rd line with you guys...! Really? He is top 2 without a doubt, only my opion

I still can't help but think that at some point we'll try Batch alongside Faulkner and Blight with lines like this:

Batch - Faulkner - Blight
Hill - Myers - Lord
(Max) - Davies - Conboy
Quinney - Piggot - Jones

Which should give us solid scoring and physicality on the first three lines and then a hard checking 4th line which will chip in with the occasional goal too.

I like the look of the following:

Conboy - Faulkner - Blight
Batch - Myers - (Max)
Lord - Davies - Hill
Quiney - Piggott - Jones

Think you have a bit of toughness and skill on every line then!

It will all depend on chemistry in the end. Think Andrew Lord looks too skilled an all-rounder to be playing on the 3rd line. Our first and 2nd lines really need to have the additional scoring potential and toughness that Lord and Conboy could provide in spade loads. On line 3 surely either Max or Phil can develop the game with Ben and Josh. All have a good chemistry when they have played together before.

Armchair coaches eh!

I think now that Conboy has signed he would be my choice for the top line spot alongside Faulkner and Blight, which would hopefully keep opposition tough guys away from them.

Lord, when signed, it was said would initially be operating on the right wing, suggesting he'd be second or third line, and since Myers has been signed as well i have seen the Hill / Myers / Lord combination every time i look at how we stack up, so that's my guess for line 2.

Line 3 would look strong in comparison to last two seasons, with Max (if he signs) playing alongside Ben and Batch. Max and Ben always seem to have great chemistry, and Batch would have the opportunity to develop his new forward role without the pressure of top line minutes.

There are still PP and PK minutes up for grabs, with Max appearing on the top unit (on the point?) alongside a specialist PP quarterback in our final d-man.

So my predicted lines would look like this:

Conboy Faulkner Blight
Hill Myers Lord
Birbraer Davies Batch
Jones Piggott Quiney

New d-man Smith
Richardson Ross
Plumton Adams

PP1 PP2
Faulkner Hill
Blight Lord
Conboy Davies
Birbraer Richardson
D-man Plumton

Myers would rotate into the PP and probably be our no.1 PK forward also.

I don't know if we would want Conboy on the top line as he seems to spend a lot of time in the penalty box.

I see your point, but then so did Payette spend a lot of time in the box during Blaze grand slam season - 369 PIM..... Yet the protection he had for Calder and Carlson made him a key part of that top line.

It may just be my personal preference, but i was always very jealous of that line and have hoped the Devils would replicate it. This year may be the year that it happens.
