Devils 4-0 Giants

The Devils continued their fine turn around in home form by demolishing title contenders the Belfast Giants 4-0 at home to bring their tally to 11 unanswered home goals.
With Dean Smith in charge for the game, things were always going to run better than they might have with any other ref, but the Devils played well and continued to leave fans wondering what had gone wrong only weeks earlier.
The Devils lines were jiggled around slightly again, but with the players seemingly having found the spark again, it was the Devils who took the lead shortly into the 1st period after several good scoring opportunities.
Devils 1-0 Giants. Finnerty from Birbraer and Voth at 5:49. PPG.
The Giants enforcer Sean McMorrow, was back in the lineup for this game and again only received minimum shifts despite his apparent threat to our team. Each time the Devils scored, McMorrow would make an appearance, possibly a ploy by Giants coach Steve Thornton to scare the Devils away from scoring anymore goals.
Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for us it was the Devils who found the back of the net again in the 1st period when Voth tipped in a shot from Jarvis.
Devils 2-0 Giants. Voth from Finnerty and Smith at 10:48.
Just over 3minutes later and the Devils had opened up a 3 goal lead. A rare error by Giants British netminder Stephen Murphy saw Hill claim the goal as the puck trickled out of Murphys glove and over the line.
Devils 3-0 Giants. Hill unassisted at 13:57.
With the first period finishing at 3-0 to the Devils it was left to McMorrow to try and goon it up, however picking on Michel possibly wasn't the best decision as Michel gave back as good as he got, much to the amusement of the large midweek crowd in the Big Blue Tent.
The 3rd period started with McMorrow continuing his crusade to get a fight and justify his sizable wage packet with any of the Devils players, but with voth just laughing in his face it was a sad sight to see McMorrow trudging off the ice.
A largely uneventful 2nd period was sparked when McMorrow tried to nail Michel at the boards, missed but somehow got the puck only to be flattened by Michel behind his own net. Despite Michel receiving a 2minute boarding penalty for his trouble, he was cheered loudly to the sinbin by the Devils faithful...
The second period finished where it had started with the Devils continuing to lead 3-0. With all the Devils players on commission for each check it was left to Coach Thornton to try and get some payback for the Giants.
Despite the 3-0 lead held by the Devils, shots on goal after the 2nd period read 14+8 for the Devils and 15+5 for the Giants.
Devils secured their 4th and final goal late in the 3rd period when Smith finally found the back of the net after working hard all night for a goal.
Devils 4-0 Giants. Smith from Jarvis and Miller at 58:13.
Despite some nonsense from McMorrow during the 3rd period, the Devils didn't bite and McMorrow was left floundering. With the final score being 4-0, Devils man of the match was awarded to Lyle for his 2nd shutout in as many games, Giants man of the match was awarded to Faubert.
2 games left till the end of the week for the Devils, hopefully the form can continue...
