2016/2017 Rumours & Offseason Random Shenanigans

did herv play LW last season or C?
Just thinking a good player to fit the left shot forward with toughness would be Josh Gratton who has been mentioned before.
LW - Josh Gratton
RW - Jeff Ulmer
RD - Derek Mathers

Probably way off on LW and RD but heard it here first.

You need an EU Player for one of your guesses ;)

Better tell the Calgary Flames fans...they will be pretty upset!
Unfortunately for Big Ern, fans aren't the ones who decide where he plays. Obviously he was with their organisation for a few years and did a great deal of charity and community work, plus being their tough guy, he was always going to be a popular figure amongst them.

His contract with Anaheim has just expired, and It's no secret that his role in the NHL is dying out, plus he will be 35 come the start of the season.

Now don't get me wrong he's had a decent year at the San Diego Gulls, however his +/- of -17 doesn't make good reading.

He's friendly with our owners, and a few players and at this stage in his career, it's not totally farfetched to think we could be in with a shot at signing a player looking to prove he's more than just a pair of fists.

I'm not saying he's signing at all, but I don't think it's totally unreasonable to think we might be in with a chance.

...if people had been mentioning Sidney Crosby, then I could totally understand why you would shut them down, but for now let's just enjoy the uncertainty the offseason brings.
Agree with your points here.

3 players I found which are without a club, Canadians with an EU passport.

Lord usually goes down the route of Canadians with a passport. Although I would like to see a proper speedy European player. Hervato was probably the quickest on the roster last year. With the late pull out of Hervato, time might be tight to find a Canadian with a passport, not many of them around.

Or we could go with Ben Davies... Who still hasn't signed anywhere.

It's an import limit rather than a minimum. Then wait for the right guy to come along. Ben Davies is faster than Hervato and offers just as much, albeit a different kind of game.

We wouldn't have less skaters than any other team either as we have the Brit NM so every team with the exception of Belfast will have 13 skaters. Clearly I want us to fill all our slots but it might not be possible to find the right guy, with a passport.

On a different note, it's a stupid rule anyway. It's not a legal thing as there would have to be unlimited EU passport holders if it was property enforced. It should be 14 imports and it shouldn't matter if you have a EU passport or a set amount of non EU players and then unlimited EU (at least until we leave the EU).

Quite interesting, Luciano Aquino played in the same league as Jeff Ulmer over the past 4 seasons (minus his little stint in SHL) and looks like he quite comfortably out scored Ulmer.

Kyle Wharton seems to have a good pedigree and is a d man

Good shout. His name was banded around last year if I remember. Played with Andrew Hotham for two years at university.
Kyle Wharton has been rumoured to the UK this off season too. Expect some of our new players will also know of/make recommendations of potential targets whether they be European or dual national players.

Ben Davies has had his bike stolen from Cardiff bay so he's in Cardiff!! Will he be staying or visiting his friends and family before heading off somewhere?
He's always in Cardiff in the off-season, it's where he lives ;)

Ben Davies could still be announced by any of the Scottish teams except Clan (who have announced they have no more returnees to report), Giants or Panthers. Think he will be in Elite League next season, perhaps just not where he initially planned to be.
