Voth vs Mcmorrow

Thread starter #1
Am I the only person worrying about Brad coming out of this weekend with another ban? Reports of this being a battle of the Giants is going to wind up this game to the hilt. And given mcmorrow comments previous to this game I only hope that the league take this into consideration.

I'm not worried about any ban i'm worried we'll lose an influential player for an utter donkey, his comments on the weekend were nothing more than those from a hockey caveman desperatly trying to keep his role in the game/team alive.

I know theres bound to be some professional pride on Vothers part to drop the gloves, but i think we can get Mcmorrow to do something silly if we keep the gloves on. Theres no need to fight him, especially in the O where it will only get the crowd behind them.

Bans dont concern me though.

I often find that these loud mouths rarely stand by their comments. You have to be a bit of a plank to make threats like that then carry them out bearing in mind the potential consequences.

McMarshmallow (!) said winning is important but so is giving the fans something to cheer about - he's right there I'd like to see nothing more than him dumped on his backside. But to me winning is everything and a damn sight more important that taking needless penalties just to prove who has the bigger ego.

I agree, Mc Morrow needs Voth more than Voth needs him, for one Brad can play and doesn't need to get involved. All Mc Morrow is trying to do is keep himself in a job!. In my opinion Voth has nothing to prove in this league. We are going over there to rack up points not penalties!! ;)

#5
Voth has nothing to prove. McMorrow it now seems is only here as Thorntons personal body guard. Id be surprised if Voth and McMorrow go on Saturday night back at the O, Sunday night in the Bay....possibly, but 5mins without Voth will hurt the Devils alot more than 5 mins without McMorrow.

I was talking to a friend earlier, i honestly think you are gonna come away from this weekend 4 points better off. 3 At least. The giants forwards are non existant so far this season, and while we seem to have a decent defence its undermined by an injured goalie. There is talk that someone will be taking a seat this weekend to bring back Bobby Robbins, but i dont see how thats going to make much of a difference.

Although i would love to see Voth v Mcmorrow big big time, and this is painful to say, we need Brad on the ice. Points are the most important thing at this moment in time, and it wouldnt be a fair trade off, Capt Fantastic for the Knucklehead.

The quotes posted from McMorrow are from his pr when his signing was announced, he at the minute doesn't appear to be a total goon.

Thornton is playing him on the powerplay plonking him in front of the goalie using him as a screen and he's been getting more ice time in recent games also.

Apparently he was harshly thrown out of the Panthers game after knocking 10 bells out of Bergen and then a couple of shifts later he went for Toney's after Thornton told him to.

As Jacko said McMorrow isn't harming the Giants its our so called top line line players Faubert Benedict and to a lesser extent Bateman, Faubert was top scorer in the ECHL but he looks like he couldn't hit a barn door at the minute, Benedict is all heart but no end product while Bateman has a few goals but he doesn't seem to do much his goals have all been set up for him.

Give me Deniset and Martin anyday of the week both these players had the skill to beat players on their own and could create from nothing where as this years side is all pass pass pass pass pass again and then oops lost the puck  . Our powerplay is the worst in the league i would think with d men who are scared to shoot the puck so go for another cycle and invariably end up giving up possession.

Still i'm hopeful they have found something in practice to make it right and will go hoping for the win, we definitely need at least 2 points from this weekend.

I think we are massively under estimating McMorrow, he has a record that goes back 10 years and only involves the OHL/NHL/LNAH/and 6 Seasons in the AHL where he has picked up 3 personal awards. Those are the leagues you would want your enforcer to have played and he has consistently taken on guys significantly tougher than anyone in the EIHL throughout his carreer, he is certainly no washed up old goon.
In any other year I would love to have him on the Devils, but I think he is wasted in this league this year and I am not sure he will last especially if Robbins comes in, cos he will most likely take his spot.
I expect him and Brad to fight this weekend TBH, but I will just be hoping that Brad uses his head and doesn't get injured or banned, cos as a fighter I dont think he comes close to what I have seen of McMorrow, but as a player ha has far more to offer.

#9
I'd be quite happy to see vother fight him as long as he leaves it till the sunday game and waits until we are in enough of a favourable position before he looks to entertain the idea. I highly doubt anyone will get banned, theres no ban rule against fighting, unless brad does something very silly it wont happen.
I wouldn't say McMorrow is a totally goon and i can see where his comments about fighting to keep the fans entertain come from, it does put bums on seats. A few years back and he would have been fine, he's just been brought in at the wrong time.

I was talking about his live interview from hockeyfest where he said

I'm always looking to go, i've asked Mr Voth if he wants it and we'll see if he is man enough to take it
This was a comment during a 4 on 4 game where skill is meant to be the main attribute on show

The tone of his whole interview just seemed to come from the dark ages, yes fights do entertain and i LOVE seeing a good scrap, but when your talking about it needing to be in the game as some sort of entertainment nessecity and not as as a way of boosting your teams morale or sticking up for the smaller guys, then i'm sorry the guy becomes a caveman hockey player.

#11
I completely agree Gazza he was making out that Voth was a lesser player than himself if he wouldn't drop the gloves. Goon sounding to me..

#12
to be honest i'm worried about voth getting it handed to him and badly, mcmorrow is by far the toughest geezer in our league and would prob be a bad move stepping up? However voth is invaulable to us on the ice and is an amazing player and an even better captain, he is needed to play and not sit in the penatly box but he's going to have to stand up for himself prob both games on the weekend? Mcmorrow don't seem to be to good against the smaller guys so maybe we'll send someone else out to step up who know's? One thing is sure we can expect a really tense weekend!

When you have fought these guys Mcmorrow isnt too much of a problem
Not quite sure that's true, last season up in Newcastle last season (I forgot game date) Voth and MacIver both took on Chris McAllister, both lost.

McMorrow is a big problem for Voth i'd say, we know he's liable to get the red mist sometimes, if McMorrow goes out and targets our smaller players, Voth being our 'toughest' player is the only one who can step up, and he won't stand a chance.

It'll be like Towe v Hutchins, but worse.

Voth can be smart when he wants to. One game up in Sheffield last season it was either Sarich or Munn who faced up against him, a few words were exchanged, the Shuff player dropped the gloves and Voth skated away laughing. Result 10 minute penalty for Sheffield

But thats not always true, when you are a heavyweight like a boxer, if you land the right punch then it doesnt matter who you are your going down, now i am not saying for one minute that Voth would take MCMORROW, but he has fought tougher, and probably will again.

Based on what I've seen, I think McMorrow would get the better of Voth, however I could not possibly judge untill I have seen them "go".

I see what people are saying though, Voth has fought the likes of Steve Mcintyre, Chris McAllister, Derek Boogaard, Brett Clouthier etc.

So I'm sure he'd have no problem dropping them with McMorrow.

I think Voth is a pretty intelligent fighter though, I have seen him turn other teams' "goons" down quite a few times and then make a play or score a goal within 2 minutes (reilising that we need points)

Don't get me wrong, Voth is effective as a physical force and a force for good for the Devils far, far, more often than he loses it and gets himself a ban, but I dont think McMorrow is an idiiot like Knight or Sharpe either and it tends to be those guys that get Brad in trouble by going way beyond the accepted unwritten laws and getting him dragged in.
I dont see problems between these two at all this weekend, a fight seems highly likely and game misconducts wouldn't suprise me, but both teams want them on the ice, McMorrow is not expendable to the Giants any more that Brad is for us.

I expect good clean enforcer fights between the two, whichi expect McMorrow to instigate and I am sure Brad will stand up to any challenge and after all, in hockey thats what counts.

If these two guys were in the AHL and they regularly fought each other over a course of a season then McMorrow would win the vast majority of them. Voth could maybe get a win here and there but it would be an upset.. But in the EIHL Voth is an important part of the Devils set up so McMorrow will more than likely have to instigate this, or go after Voth if he starts throwing himself about against our players.

Voth is a top EIHL fighter and is more than capable of being able to hang in with the big guys, but he will lose far more than he will win against a top AHL standard enforcer like McMorrow. Voth has fought top guys like McMorrow in the past but has lost every time so far. Eric Godard, Steve MacIntyre, Derek Boogaard, Brett Clouthier, Chris McAllister, Mel Angelstad, Graham Belak have all handed Voth loses..

McMorrow has regularly fought top class minor league fighters and guy's that now play the tough guy role in the NHL, and has wins over Brian McGrattan, Brandon Sugden, Derek Boogaard, Cam Janssen, Brett Clouthier, Jon Mirasty, Jeremy Yablonski, Steve Bosse, Mike Hoffman, Martin Grenier who are all top quality fighters.. But has also had a few loses to guys similar in standard to Voth, so the chance of an upset is there.

I'm looking forward to this weekends game as Cardiff always bring a physical and skilled approach the way I like to watch hockey. With Bobby Robins back in the Giants side we now have another guy that likes to throw himself about on the ice, so both games should be exciting affairs..

I just hope our top line forwards pull it together as they are the ones who are failing to live up to expectation's so far. Murphy has been good so far. The defence has looked solid enough. The second line has looked much better than our top line. McMorrow has done exactly what we thought he would, look after the team and win his fights and he is starting to get more ice time as well as playing on our PP unit. The two new Brits have looked very good in Peacock and Phillips senior, shame Peacock is injured this weekend.
